Simple comedy
npwins1 December 2013
I saw the trailer on TV and decided to watch the show because of Briga Heelan.

The show has a good cast and a simple enough premise of an office comedy. Characters aren't really over the top, although a few have really strong personalities. My biggest surprise was seeing John C. McGinley, who plays Dr Cox in Scrubs and I loved his character in that show and he plays something similar here.

I had a good laugh watching this show, and felt entertained through its entirety. I have no idea why people are rating it 1/10, at least be honest with yourself and give this a 6-7/10 which it deserves when compared to some of the other supposed top comedy shows that are out at the moment, like How I met your mother which has gone completely downhill.

The three main leads have good chemistry together and I feel like as the show builds upon itself and we get to know the characters more, it will only get funnier.

I'm so mad that this got cancelled!

Warning: Spoilers
I'm so mad that this show got cancelled. If I could swear in a review, I would. That's how upset I am over this. I thought this show was hilarious. It was completely different to a lot of other sitcoms. The cast portrayed their characters great, and they just brought the stories to life.

This show is about a group of people who work in the same building. Top people, like Brody, work at the top of the firm, directly under Mansfield. Then there are the people, like Jenny, and Harvard who work on the ground floor. But when Brody falls in love with Jenny, making things work between their jobs, and their relationship, is a daily struggle, especially with Mansfield intervening.

Best part of the show: Mansfield.

Overall, I give this TV show an 8 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Awesome.

Funny and entertaining

John C. McGinley is hilarious as the over the top self centered boss. Good mix of characters poke fun at both white and blue collar workers. Displays a humorous view of the different economic classes. Skylar Astin (Brody) struggles at times to overcome business decision that changes career path. Focus is on his climb to success and manage a relationship with a worker at the firm. Briga Heelan (Jennifer) I'm in love, very talented actor who portrays an average worker fighting off coworker advances in a funny way. Rory Scovel (Harvard) The coworker you avoid at all cost. You wonder if he should be jailed or committed for his comments and antics. The show is as funny as many major networks programming. The show IMHO focuses a little too much on sex so I don't recommend it for viewers younger than fifteen. NOTE: Writers it is not necessary to offend people of faith by using the Lords name in vain, I mean really? Atheists shouldn't miss it and I know faith based viewers won't. Just saying.

Not too Shabby 8/10
breakfastclubbilly17 November 2013
There are many shows that I like for very different reasons. For example, the reasons I like The Big Bang Theory are dissimilar to the reasons I like Parks and Rec, or Modern Family, or even The Neighbors. I found this to be true for Ground Floor as well.

I've read all the reviews on IMDb, and if you read a review where someone rates this show a 1/10, then you know that person is just being rude and cynical for their own perverted pleasure and nothing more. They think it's cool or hip to undermine a show. It's not, however it is sad.

My reasoning for giving this show a 8/10 is very simple, I enjoyed the story. Is Ground Floor some new paradigm shifting show that'll transform the world of situational comedies in the 21st century? No, but then again, its not trying to be.

Many of the shows out there today are just copies of copies. This can be said for about 85 percent of the new sitcoms that aired this Fall on network TV. But even the very worse show on TV doesn't deserve a 1/10. This snarky new fad of putting every thing down is pathetic.

The fact is, I enjoyed the show. I laughed at the jokes, enjoyed the characters, reveled at the chemistry of the love interests and felt a sense of nostalgia for a few cast members. What more can I ask for from a show? People, we have a Big Bang Theory and a Modern Family, and now, we have a Ground Floor, a little show with a big heart. And I predict it'll only get better as it matures.

So Give this show a chance and see if its for you because chances are, you're looking for a little heart with your laughs.

I want to like it
panther048215 November 2013
Maybe it's my bias for John McGinley and his talent or maybe it's because of Skylar Astin's John Cusack's likable underdog persona, but I want this show to be good. My concern is that my subjectivity for these actors is blurring my objectivity for the artistic and comedic reality of the show. I'm worried that the show has started off in a direction that will suspend it in mediocrity.

Although there is minimal content to work from at this moment, only 2 episodes, it is concerning when the writers take a fairly cookie cutter approach with the characters, concept and writing. There is talent in this cast, and i am hoping that the writing will take advantage of that soon- for who knows how long the half-life is for new sitcoms in today's audience.

Initially I find a lack of depth in the characters. They have easily discernible, rigid roles that define the standard sitcom world- protagonist, love interest, demanding boss- and it can easily lead to one dimensional, bounded characters. Take Harvard, through two episodes he has been established as a pseudo antagonist to Brody, and that's it. Every scene is the same jealous angle from him. Couple this with too many scripted jokes and obvious punch lines and you get a muddled experience from your initial viewing. There was just too much obviousness, low level wit. But there were moments, in McGinley's style and Astin's delivery, that offer promise and should give you a reason to give this show a look.

Today's audience is more intelligent and more demanding than ever. There has to be more than what's directly written and seen for them to want to tune back in. Subtlety in humor, interwoven story arcs that cross paths later in an episode to give it depth, intelligence and curiosity about what will develop. I didn't get that so far from this show, but I want to. The lead characters have the ability to make this show more than what people saw so far. I just hope the writers quickly take the training wheels off and let the characters develop and create a more organic, believable, witty world from the Ground Floor on up. 72 / 100

Great new sitcom from Bill Lawrence (Scrubs)
kyler3229115 November 2013
It's a show from Bill Lawrence and co-stars John C. McGinley so it's no surprise that the show is pretty damn funny. (Scrubs was amazing). Sklar Astin's Brody periodically acts a little like JD from Scrubs and John's character is much like a softer Dr. Cox. Which is never a bad thing. There aren't a whole lot of sitcoms or shows in general that can be this good this early on. The chemistry between the stars is pitch perfect(ha), the writing is sharp as a whip, and its just so much fun to watch. HATE the laugh track but its not as synthetic sounding as with most other programs. I've only seen a couple episodes but I have high hopes for Ground Floor. This. Is. The. One. To. Watch. Very funny.

McGuinley & Scovel Show
alexfstu30 May 2022
These two guys saved this otherwise mediocre show. All other characters and the corresponding actors are blend.

The writing is ehh but again.

Dont have much more to say. It is a show for when you have nothing better to do, and just want something extremely light and somewhat fun.

It was good
gsocursed16 November 2013
I enjoyed the pilot a lot but there was some minor issues. The laugh track that was used seemed repetitive and redundant. Although there were some minor hiccups this is expected for a brand new show. The one thing that i enjoyed the most is the cast. The chemistry on stage after two episodes seemed tremendous. I believe this is due to the fantastic casting of the directors. They chose people that somewhat already knew each other and a cast that seems laid back and fun. This show shows great potential in becoming tbs' new hit comedy. We all know that tbs has been struggling to find a new hit show. I believe that Ground Floor is the answer to the networks prayers. I will continue to watch this because I believe that this show could turn into something very special.

Unfunny, Unwatchable
filmpudding8 January 2016
I just could not sit through another episode of this show even if you paid me.

I sat through two entire episodes and tried watching a third but couldn't make it through. The writing is super lazy, with repetitive, predictable and unfunny jokes. The kind of stuff you'd expect from somebody trying to write or do stand up comedy for the very first time ever.

The actors are awful but I blame the writing. The main star is just terrible but it's hard to say if it's his fault or not, since McGinley comes across as average at best and I have been a huge fan of him in pretty much every else that I've ever seen him in, including Scrubs (which I wasn't a huge fan of overall but which is definitely a lot better than this dreck.)

I'm glad this is cancelled and if it is ever on in reruns and you're thinking "should I check this out?" the answer in my opinion is a resounding "no, no, nooooo!"

Great show
pabrown11875 January 2014
I thought the writing on this show was something to strive for as a writer myself. Great cast, Funny, a show that makes you want to turn in week after week. If this show can last it will be compared to shows like friends and scrubs. Shows that make you feel like you can relate to the characters. The secondary characters are just as lovable as the main characters but more than the characters you can relate to; the show is a fun show that will make you laugh out loud. It's a show I'd be proud to be a writer on. I believe that a show like this is rare and can have a lasting impact long after it's gone. Best new comedy on TV. A perfect 10 out of 10.

Painfully Awful
jmadams00715 December 2014
Rory Scovel is one of the most brilliant comedians working today. I have had the blessed opportunity to see him live and he is a non-stop tour de force as a comedian. Coming to this show with an expectation of any kind that you will get some sort of Scovel magic, I was sorely disappointed. I was so glad that Rory had found a show to work on and now I am just sad that his talent is being wasted on this garbage.

This show basically is the show that Lisa Kudrow is mocking on The Comeback. A nonsense show that cheapens sex and humanity by giving it no soul or value. It also cheapens what it thinks of its audience by believing they are foolish enough to want this drivel.

In the age of Top of the Lake, The Sopranos, The Wire, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, House of Cards, True Detective (I could go on and on) ... it is difficult to believe a show this bad could actually still exist, much less warrant a second season.

Another not funny comedy
ChrisaRafa17 November 2013
When a new comedy starts in a channel I watch it and secretly pray to be really funny. But almost every time I end up to stop it within the first 5 minuter. Unfortunately "Ground Floor" in not an exception. Bad jokes and this fake laugh is a nightmare.

What is going on with comedy shows these days? They are not funny at all. Series like "Supernatural" or "Castle" are more funny than the comedy shows.

Well, it's not nice for a show to be canceled but I'm afraid that "Ground Floor" has very limited time on TV like so many others before.

I hope someone either writer or producer or channel will care and try to make a really good comedy show like the ones we've used to watch in the previous decades.

Why was such an awesome show canceled?!
zleejlee13 July 2015
This show keeps me laughing the cast is great! I started the show got completely into it only to find out it was canceled😤 bring it back please!!!! There are other TV shows that are continuing on seasons and seasons and they are not even close to being this funny we need more hilarious shows like this one!!! Come on!!!!! Best show I've seen in a long time cancel the crappy ones not the best ones!!! Better than scrubs in my opinion the relationships that everyone has on the show are magnetic and all around great, I don't want to have to stop watching it so it would be super duper great if the producer of this show would reconsider a cancellation or TBS for that matter and quit leaving shows on air that are horrible and hardly funny at all! It is disappointing that a show finally came around that I loved and could watch and enjoy with the hubby I mean we should seriously be TV show critics or continuing writers for shows because we have some good taste and great ideas that could of kept the show flowing come on let's done world and viewers a huge favor and bring back this hilarious, fun loving comedy show!

horrible
lelliott-414 November 2013
This show is even worse than the ads made it look. Bad script, bad acting, and just plain stupid. The laugh track is ridiculous, the laughter doesn't fit the jokes, partially because the jokes aren't funny. The plot is ludicrous, I can't find anything good about it. TBS can do so much better. I'd rather watch reruns of old shows than sit through this. I'll give it another chance next week, but it will take a lot of re-working to make it viewable. I believe they preview new shows to test audiences, and I can't imagine who they found that would think this show could fly. Frankly, the best improvement would be to throw this show out and start over.

One of two comedy series that makes me laugh out loud: hilarious!
Fernando8574836 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I'm at episode s01e04 now and Ground Floor is SO funny, I can't believe it! I'm so jealous of these writers, well done!!

Just like with Scrubs there is a perfect balance between comedy and drama.

A lot of other (new) comedy series lack a good bit of drama and that makes them shallow and flat very quickly.

The casting is great and there's a wonderful sexy chemistry between Briga Heelan and Skylar Astin that creates a good base for every storyline.

Also Rory Scovel deserves 10 stars as the crazy-jealous weirdo, and veteran John McGinley's character is certainly no copy of his alter ego in Scrubs and is again very, very funny.

Back then I got bored with the last season of Scrubs, but now it's impressive to see how Bill Lawrence has managed to bring a fresh new comedy that is in my opinion the funniest on TV right now.

Just invest a few episodes in the characters in Ground Floor and you'll be rewarded!

Falls Flat
deadmemories6912 December 2013
Jokes fall flat and I didn't crack a smile the entire episode I watched. The reason why they stick this show in the middle of Big Bang episodes is so that it will get more viewers, but I doubt it will work because the humor just isn't up to par. Usually I find workplace comedies hilarious, but not with this show. It drags. The actors don't have very good chemistry and the jokes are cheesy, cliché, and not well written at all. It really is just not funny, to the point where I took time out of my life to write this review, with a vague hope that someone important will read it and pull it off the air and replace it with a funnier show.

Not impressed
hectorsfc16 November 2013
This show has potential, and I enjoyed all of the cast members with the exception of the main character. Skylar Astin is just another milktoast ho hum amateurish actor with little charisma and even less acting ability. Cant we have a main character that people want to root for? I want to preface this next statement by stating I am Jewish. Having said this, does every new show have to have a main character that is 5'6" and Jewish? It gets really old and this Lipstein guy has to be related to someone, he cant be the best option they could find.

I also think the first 2 episodes were good, but much too formulaic. The jokes often seemed much too set up and contrived and not spontaneous enough. I would like to think if they worked on this a little more I would tune back in, but honestly, the main actor isn't going anywhere, and because of it I expect this sitcom to last no more than a season or two.

Briga:)
jamesmills-297039 April 2023
Very likable. I can't really say what it is. I like about the show, but it's brand of comedy strikes me as well as the players Briga is striking and I just can't get enough of it. It's just a shame that it's so short lived if there was a show I could bring back this would be it be, I think there's just so much more that they could have done past a season two. The only negative thing I can think of is that it's such a waste of talent that could've made possibly six or seven seasons, at least. There's something very familiar about the general concepts that brings us back to TV of the past yet somehow stays very current. I fell in love with the show and was so disappointed to see it end and where are the formats for anyone who wants to watch it I'm not even sure I keep trying to find it everywhere.

I Love this show!!!!!! 10/10
sarahgfct1 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I hate it when people write a really bad review of a show and give it a 1/10, especially after only seeing the first episode or two. People do anyways, but this show does NOT deserve that!!!!! Skylar Astin and Briga Heelan have amazing chemistry and are both great actors!! This show always makes me laugh, and it has drama, but not too much. John C. McGinley is brilliant with how he portrays Mansfield, and contributes a lot to the show. Alexis Knapp, Rory Scovel, Rene Gube, and James Earl all add lots of laughs as well. Despite what some people have said, this show is not a copy of any other show! I love this show and I hope it plays for many seasons!

Great Family Show
webbstar1520 February 2014
The one thing I hate more than poorly written and over rated T.V series are the pretentious wannabes that take great pleasure in trying to destroy someones work from behind a computer screen. This is a good, fun, original, family show. Yes its the same formula that has worked in an untold number of shows but what makes this show stand out to me is the chemistry with the three main characters. I wont put too much into this and give anything away but I've watched the entire series, unlike some that are willing to judge on just the first episode. The story evolves well around the three main characters Brody, Jennifer & Mansfield with lots of other well developed characters. There are lots of laughs there is some sexual innuendos but not to the extent that a lot of the other sitcoms at the moment use. I feel that most of the comedies out there now rely on that kind of writing rather than giving something new and different like this a go. My family and I highly enjoy it and you know its good when your 13 year old daughter tells you when its on.

John McGinley you're better than that..
cassidyorme23 January 2015
This show only got a three because two brilliant comedic actors are on it.. Rory, and John.. other than that its crap.. which is very evident in their constant use of the laugh track.. also Alexia Knapp.. thank everyone involved for putting her sexy body on TV.. but its obvious thats all you're doing.. that and giving a stage for Skylar Astin to sing.. which is just a stupid gimmick..

this show is great as a cautionary tale anyone wondering what not to do when writing a sitcom.. watch it study it. I hope that John and Rory leave the show as soon as possible.. they are both better than this crap..

Lacklustre
pcoles57 August 2017
I had very high expectations for this show so I guess I should try to temper them in my review, and that might be why I am so very disappointed with this show to be honest, but I tried it several times and just tried it again after leaving it for a long time and still think it is a very disappointing (and also not very funny for a comedy) effort.

Ted McGinley (if that is the right name?) is completely wasted and even seems uncomfortable being in this, as if he knows that the show is not very good and is just going through the motions to fulfill his contract as an actor. I liked him a lot in Scrubs and he is still good (though similar) in this but there's just not much for him to do with poor writing and poor other performers (the male lead in this is incredibly annoying).

Not sure what they were even trying to do with this show but it was frankly not very good and not at all funny (other than a few scenes by the guy from Scrubs).
