The highlight of the PIIFF (Prize Indie International Film Festival) 2009, this movie stuck with me for days and weeks after seeing it. It is not a perfect movie, it has its slow points and moments that don't quite work, but overall it is a definite success. The story follows a depressed young man's weekly visits with his psychiatrist, followed by trips to the bar and back to his lonely apartment. But when Trexler meets a girl in the waiting room he really begins to crumble. What were just small day dreams turn into vivid recurring nightmares and we see why Trexler is in his current state. Dreams and reality, past and present blur and detouring from his weekly routine, Trexler finds healing and gains an insight into our world few have found. The real story here is first time writer/director Jason Nicola, who also stars. Visually appealing direction, excellent performances and a story that gets more and more complex as the movie goes on, Trexler is a strangely beautiful watch that goes from melancholy mixed with humor to jaw dropping to finally enlightening. I would definitely recommend it.
