Averagely Favorable Taste of Drama

First of all, I'd just express my devastation knowing that this film is actually not the first one to tackle such kind of situation as claimed by its producers. It is a shame for claiming an original idea which was actually based from a foreign movie. If this is a clear coincidence, then they could have researched further so that they may know that they are not the first.

The screen presentation of the main characters is above average because we can clearly see the talent of each actor and actress. However, at several scenes, we can clearly perceive the lacking of facial expressions despite heavy lines brought out by the character.

The dialogues are very good, making a film not full of clichéd script. It was successful in making the audience internalize what is happening on-screen. However, I haven't liked many scenes as the sexually explicit scenes were obviously done just to attract the viewers.

The rolling of cameras is poor. There is barely a change in the techniques used making the screen dull.

The musical scoring, on the other hand, is very deserving of all the praise and I believe I don't have to elaborate much on this because music is incontestably necessary to uplift the spirit of the viewers.

The twists that happened are somehow similar to how much I expected it to occur, so I was overly satisfied. The ending was somehow overly familiar and I don't appreciate the conclusion of the plot that much because it wasn't that clear and really, it did not answer the crisis of the movie.

In a broad sense of critical analysis, I give it a point of 6 / 10.

Much better than anticipated...

It was a nice change of scenery to actually see a Tagalog movie that wasn't a romantic comedy for once. And "One More Try" does prove that the Philippine cinema can manage other genres than romantic comedies.

The story told in "One More Try" is about Grace (played by Angel Locsin) whose son Botchok is very ill and desperately needs a bone narrow transplant. Grace seeks out Edward (played by Dingdong Dantes) whom she had Botchok with, but given the situation Edward is not knowing of the fact that he has a son. This puts a strain on the marriage between Edward and Jacqueline (played by Angelica Panganiban).

Actually there are more layers to the story that this, but that is essentially the main storyline. And I will say that it was an interesting storyline that was nicely executed on the screen, so thumbs up to director Ruel S. Bayani for managing to piece together this movie.

And the movie would be nothing without talented actors and actresses, and the people hired for the roles in this movie were doing great jobs in portraying the characters and situations. And there is a very genuine and believable vibe to the entire movie.

The dialog was good and well scripted, helping the movie along quite nicely. Personally I don't understand the constant switching between Tagalog and English, but that is how most people speak in the Philippines.

"One More Try" is an entertaining movie and a movie with a good sense of realism, and it is well worth watching and a well deserved step away from the usual romantic comedies that are spewed out from the Philippines.

aliens on screen

Warning: Spoilers
WTF was that? These people are not people. They don't behave like ordinary people I know. There's like 30 seconds of realistic human behavior and 1.5 hours of extraterrestrial indulgence. It gets funnier and funnier the more you watch. That's the real entertainment value here - how unrelatable and silly the script can go. I mean really? There's no choice between in vitro and the other thing? No artificial insemination? Really? There are no moral qualms about giving birth to a child just to give bone marrow to the brother? And a child is at death's threshold, but can be saved by a baby to be born NINE MONTHS HENCE and surely not a bone marrow donor for a few more years? You're the concerned wife worried about your husband's adultery - and you go overseas for a job transfer? You are a boyfriend who accepts a house from your girlfriend's former flame who happens to be her son's dad?

Ad nauseaum. You have been warned. Stay away!

Excellent acting, stupid plot

All he needs to do is to jerk off in a 10 cc syringe and have her inject straight into her vagina. The estranged couple can do that many times until she is pregnant. But because it is a drama, the story should be dramatized. And drama it is indeed.

In real marital situation, the well-meant couple must always distinguish what acts could spawn jealousy. Any action that can compromise the relationship must be avoided, things such as extended talking to an ex, constant re connection, going out together even for once and recollecting the past, or even just keeping mementos and photographs. Hey, drinking alcohol can blur all the lines for sure. Cut and cut cleanly to be crystal clear.

Excellent, but a bit Unrealistic Love triangle story
KATO-SUBZERO11 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Sunday 11 December 2022: I have only seen a few Filipino movies that are made in Philippines. The few that I have seen are action movies with American cast filmed there with some Filipino actors/actresses. I was looking at my choices of movies to watch on Net Flicks and I stumbled upon "One More Try". I liked this movie from start to the very end. The three main cast are really good and both women are pretty, but to me, actress, Angel Locsin is beautiful and more exotic than any woman in the film.

It is unrealistic because no normal thinking husband and wife in love will allow their spouse to have sex with the ex even though it is for a great cause to save the life of a child. What about Artificial Insemination or some other method and keep trying until it works? I think Grace still has feelings of romantic love for her ex-husband as mentioned in the film. Over all, I give the film two Thumbs up.
