Exclusive: In her first her broadcast development cycle after departing her MTV series, Awkward creator Lauren Iungerich has commanded one of the biggest comedy commitments this year. Damaged Goods, a single-camera comedy created/executive produced by Iungerich, has landed at ABC with a pilot production commitment that has a series penalty behind it. Warner Bros TV is producing via a script deal the studio signed with Iungerich last month. Damaged Goods is described as a comedy about the sexual politics that have changed between men and women in this post-feminist era. Iungerich, repped by Wme and Robyn Meisinger at Madhouse Entertainment, spent the past several years at MTV, where she created and ran breakout comedy Awkward for the first three seasons and wrote and executive produced the half-hour comedy pilot Hot Mess. She exited both projects earlier this year.

If MTV renews "Awkward" for a fourth season, it will do so without the series' creator, Lauren Iungerich.
The cable channel and Iungerich have parted ways in what was called a mutual decision. MTV will now look for a new showrunner for the high-school comedy, which is finishing up production on Season 3 (the back half of which will air in the fall).
"'Awkward' is a wonderful series and we appreciate the creativity and devotion Lauren brought to this show," MTV head Susanne Daniels tells Deadline. "We wish her the best in her new ventures."
Iungerich leaving "Awkward" comes a couple of months after she exited "Hot Mess," a pilot she did for MTV (it did not go to series). According to Deadline, her departure from "Awkward" was motivated by both professional and personal reasons.
"Awkward" fans, what do you make of the news? Will the show be the same without Iungerich?...

After "Awkward" Season 3, the beloved, quirky MTV dramedy will never be the same.
The show's creator Lauren Iungerich is stepping down as showrunner after "Awkward's" current third season, the second half of which will debut in October. In a statement, MTV confirmed Iungerich's departure, calling the split "mutual."
“'Awkward' is a wonderful series and we appreciate the creativity and devotion Lauren brought to this show. We wish her the best in her new ventures," Susanne Daniels, president of programming at MTV, said in a statement.
Deadline reports that Iungerich’s decision to leave "Awkward" is due to both professional and personal reasons. Three months ago, she exited her buzzy MTV comedy pilot "Hot Mess" and ultimately, the network decided to not go forward with the show. Both "Hot Mess" and "Awkward" originated under the previous MTV regime before Daniels stepped in.

Awkward creator/executive producer/showrunner Lauren Iungerich will be leaving the flagship MTV comedy series when it wraps production on Season 3 tomorrow. The network characterized the parting of the ways as mutual. “Awkward is a wonderful series and we appreciate the creativity and devotion Lauren brought to this show,” MTV Programming President Susanne Daniels said. “We wish her the best in her new ventures.” MTV is looking to extend the series, currently seeking a new showrunner for a potential fourth season. Iungerich’s decision to leave Awkward is said to have been a difficult one for her based on a combination of work and personal reasons. It comes three months after she exited her MTV comedy pilot Hot Mess as the pilot was heading into MTV’s screenings with a lot of buzz. The network ultimately decided to not go forward with the project. Both Awkward and Hot Mess originated under the previous MTV regime.

Two cable TV series received good news today: ABC Family renewed comedy "Baby Daddy" for Season 3 before Season 2 has even premiered, and VH1 ordered an additional seven episodes of weekly talk show "The Jenny McCarthy Show."
"Baby Daddy" Season 2 premieres May 29 but filming has already wrapped on the upcoming batch of episodes and ABC Family is apparently excited enough about what they've seen to move forward with more.
McCarthy's show, which premiered Feb. 8, will take a one week break on April 5 before new episodes resume April 12.
More bite-sized TV news:
- Carla Gugino ("Political Animals") is giving network TV another shot as the female lead of ABC's legal pilot "Doubt" starring Steve Coogan from executive producer David Shore ("House").
- Emmy winner Zeljko Ivanek ("Damages") has booked a three episode arc on Season 2 of Cinemax's "Banshee" as renegade FBI agent Jim Racine. [TVLine]

I’ve learned that MTV has decided not to go forward with comedy pilot Hot Mess following the recent departure of the project’s creator/executive producer Lauren Iungerich. The decision comes as MTV brass are screening pilots for potential series pickups. Hot Mess had been considered a top contender based on strong testing and the pedigree of its creator, Awkward creator/executive Iungerich. But, like on Awkward, I hear Iungerich’s voice was at the core of Hot Mess, and, with her gone, MTV executives ultimately decided not to go forward with the project.

MTV has passed on Hot Mess. The pilot from Awkward creator Lauren Iungerich will not move forward at the cable network, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The news comes as little surprise, as Iungerich -- who is behind MTV's critical darling Awkward -- exited the project a week ago. Story: MTV Greenlights New Pilot From 'Awkward' Creator, Sets Lead (Exclusive) Hot Mess centered on Amanda Marshall (Australian actress Annabelle Stephenson), who is her own worst enemy when it comes to love. She emotionally spirals, impulsively texts and proactively calls. She knows the rules but can't follow them because she can't help herself. She's

The expanded 20-episode third season of MTV‘s Awkward will launch on Tuesday, April 16, at 10 Pm with an hour-long premiere (trailer below). The following week, Awkward will be joined by new series Girl Code, a spinoff of MTV2′s Guy Code, which will air in the 10:30 slot for what MTV touts as “funny female comedy lineup.” The announcement comes just as Awkward creator/executive producer Lauren Iungerich exited her MTV pilot Hot Mess. The Tuesday block signals MTV’s emphasis on female-oriented programming under new programming chiefs Susanne Daniels and Mina Lefevre, who both come from backgrounds of developing for young females at the WB and ABC Family, respectively.

Exclusive: In a major shakeup on MTV‘s comedy pilot Hot Mess, I have learned that the project’s creator/executive producer Lauren Iungerich has departed. “We mutually agreed to part ways on the Hot Mess pilot,” a rep for MTV said. The move comes as I hear Hot Mess tested very well and was heading into next week’s MTV screenings as a frontrunner for a series pickup. The pilot had already been exploring writer staffing in anticipation of a series order. I hear Iungerich recently made the difficult decision to leave the project she had worked on for several years for a combination of creative and personal reasons. She remains committed to her MTV series Awkward, which is currently filming its 20-epsode third season. Iungerich is Awkward’s creator/executive producer. Hot Mess was picked up to pilot by the previous MTV regime. The pilot was wrapping casting...

Exclusive: I’ve learned that MTV‘s new president of programming Susanne Daniels has made her first major executive hire, tapping ABC Family’s VP Development and Programming Mina Lefevre as Svp and new head of scripted programming. The cable network’s current head of scripted, Svp Justin Levy, is expected to report to Lefevre. MTV had no comment. When Daniels was named president of programming of MTV in November, there was a lot of speculation whether she would bring in top executives from outside, especially people she had worked with at the WB or Lifetime. A day after Daniels’ announcement, MTV’s co-head of scripted programming, Svp Clay Spencer, was let go, leaving Levy as the solo head of scripted. Spencer had been brought in by Daniels’ predecessor David Janollari, while Levy is a homegrown MTV talent, having been at the cable network for over four years, steadily rising through the ranks.

Jake Sandvig (Easy A) has been cast as a regular in MTV’s comedy pilot Hot Mess, from Awkward creator/executive producer Lauren Iungerich. It centers on Amanda Marshall (Annabelle Stephenson), who is caught between her current and former boyfriend, and her close circle of friends from college. In a recasting, Sandvig will play Nick, a member of Amanda’s crew who is a veteran womanizer with no problems getting girls to fall in his lap. He replaces Matthew Atkinson, who was originally cast in the role. The pilot starts production today. Sandvig, repped by Main Title Entertainment and Innovative Artists, recurred on Weeds this past season. Kevin Bishop and Kelen Coleman round out the cast of Rebel Wilson’s ABC comedy pilot Super Fun Night. The project, executive produced by Conan O’Brien, was originally developed as a multi-camera sitcom for CBS last season where it went to pilot.
