I knew it would eventually happen with this series. I'm very familiar with the subject matter, and I knew that eventually the story would get embellished from reality in order to serve a dramatic purpose.
The series would like to be the typical "rags to riches to handcuffs" story that all these modern biopics strive to be, where the criminal mastermind eventually gets his comeuppance, but this story lies about a crucial fact in this episode: Bannon's wife never abandoned him. Not in real life. Thru the crimes, the criminal case, everything, she never left him, never abandoned him, never spoke of his guilt. She stood by his side.
Maybe that piece of the story was changed to make him appear more desperate at the end, or to make his spouse seem less complicit/more innocent, but it's a big falsity in that it paints her in an incorrect light. She was loyal, to the end, and maybe that was an inconvenient truth for the story the show runners were trying to tell.
I think it was a mistake to tell the story in this way, as rather than just being the racy story of the "fall of the Chippendales guy", it could have also been the story of the couple's real love. Hate to break it to you, Hollywood, but even "bad people" still are capable of love.
