Dystopian tale misses the point
lor_19 November 2023
"Touch" is an unwise attempt by the JoyBear team to venture into sci-fi or at least speculative fiction territory. It doesn't ring true for a second.

Likely inspired by the Covid-19 pandemic (the movie was shot in 2021), it posits a future dystopia stemming from the discovery of an antigen that is spread by skin contact, so the authorities outlaw touching. (Sounds familiar?). But people do not necessarily obey, so the heroine is an Eye (played by Viktoria Quinn), employed for surveillance to report breaking of this law. There is no dialogue, just plenty of voice-over narration by Quinn as we watch five sexual vignettes, one taking place in flashback to the "Before Time" when a whole lot of touching was going on!

The problem with this premise (there is no script credit to reveal the guilty party) is that antigens are often benign. Relevant case in point is that the Covid-19 antigens are what the vaccines contain to stimulate the body to produce the antibodies that fight agianst the virus, namely the immune response. So the movie's stated (in voiceover) premise is misleading, akin to misinformation that has created the hordes of anti-vax people. So much for well-meaning pornography!

At any rate, JoyBear's format of pantomime porn, with voice-over added, has zero impact here, as the visuals never connect with the premise. All we see in the movie is lots of skin touching as couples have sex, either breaking the law or occuring in flashback. Scenes in a bar or movie theater play as if nothing was different, only the "NO TOUCHING" signs on seats in the theater indicate that a police state has taken over.

In fact the "Eye" played by Viktoria gets fed up with watching and has a threesome with a stripper (Loveday) and another Eye (Marcus Quillan) in the finale, throwing caution to the wind. Add this to the sort of "anti-antigen" message of the voice-over and you have an otherwise innocuous porn video that spreads disinformation as matter-of-factly as RFK Junior, our next president -NOT.
