Warning: Spoilers
Both Luke and Manny have to work on project for school. It involves eggs. The boys must come up with an idea in which they build a container to protect an egg that is thrown from a story high. Each boy has no luck in making their inventions work. Enter Claire, she feels like going back to the time where Alex had a project similar to this, which was a success. One thing though, Claire feels her son should complete the project by himself.

Manny feels that Luke will have a better finished experiment with the help of his mother. Jay becomes interested in helping his step-son, which Gloria wants him not to interfere. That is all it takes for Jay to get fired up in getting involved with Manny's experiment. As it turns out, Jay and Claire have always been competitive about things involving deadlines.

Phil, who is now working for a new real estate agency, is preparing a presentation for first time buyers. It will be a sort of seminar where the emphasis of the lecture will be shown as golden keys, meaning opportunities. Since Claire is concentrating in assisting Luke, he asks Gloria to come to the lecture he will be conducting with Haley. Being in the audience, the two will ask questions that will help Phil deliver a good presentation. Since there is time for the show, Gloria decides to go with Haley to a beauty salon nearby, which delays them to return in time for Phil's sales pitch. The result is not exactly what he wanted.

Meanwhile, Cam and Mitchell are interviewing a prospective mother who is picking families in which to leave her baby since she is not planning in keeping the baby. The two partners want to make a good impression. The girl is too concerned about the 'feng shui' in the guys house arrangement. Seeing Cam's keyboard, she wants to hear him sing; he complies with mixed results for the girl, who has a change of heart as to leaving her baby with them.

Luke is at a standstill with the project. Claire knows that Alex will be the key to making it work. Jay arrives with Manny, but they are also nowhere near to make their inventions work. Alex finally comes through for her mother and grandfather. All that was needed is simple enough and she saves the day by being the brainy kid she is.

Jason Winer directed the episode written by Brad Walsh and Paul Corrigan, who have contributed to the program. The whole idea behind the installment is competition and loyalty to the family and how in times of need everyone must pitch in to help.

Is the show about to get this lame?

Please please please Modern Family, You were hilarious and not out of touch like most shows out there. Don't lose your bravery, your honesty, your witty sense of humour... don't become another one of them politically correct ones please, there is no entertainment in that...
