Ignore the 10 star reviews. It's a stinker
peter-p-scherr14 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Stripper wants a bigger butt because her colleagues get tipped more. She's refused because of some random immune condition that puts her at risk of complications. Luckily there's a cut price clinic that will give her the buttocks of her dreams. Unluckily for her the woman doing the surgeries is psychotic. Those prepared to endure this thing for an hour are rewarded with her rationale but frankly who cares. A social commentary on the need some women have for cosmetic surgery quickly devolves into a very bad thriller.

The acting ranges from poor to downright awful. Bad script, shonky camera work, cheap effects, there's just nothing redeeming here. Avoid.

Clinic: A Film Lost in Ambition and Short on Substance
iamMarkPrice10 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Meet Lisa. She had a difficult childhood due to the bullying she received for her body shape, particularly her lack of a prominent buttocks. Naturally, this caused Lisa to grow up to exhibit her body for strangers as a stripper. Lisa struggles as an exotic dancer to make even a quarter of the income the other strippers make because of her perceived derriere deficiencies.

Now meet Malcom. As final year medical student (who apparently doesn't have to do a medical internship like real doctors do) his contrast and incompatibility with Lisa couldn't be more stark. He is on the verge of completing his studies, preparing for his final exam a couple of days away. He's also Lisa's boyfriend. Yes really, we are asked to believe pole dancer Lisa has a medical student boyfriend moments away from becoming a doctor. Malcom loves Lisa and is happy to support her in showing her body to strangers for money, displaying no signs of shame or concern in her chosen career. But, no pun intended, what Malcom really wants to do is support Lisa financially.

Lisa becomes frustrated however with the idea of waiting a few more weeks for Malcom to graduate and secure a stable job. Feeling dissatisfied with her earnings compared to other strippers, she impulsively decides to spend $25,000 on surgery, with hopes of improving her future prospects. Surprisingly, instead of pursuing an education or addressing other pressing flaws, Lisa's focus is solely on enhancing her buttocks. However, Lisa's plans are blocked when the very first surgeon she consults declines to perform the operation. As it turns out, Lisa is no stranger to the fact that she possesses a "rare" disorder that impacts her blood clotting factor, creating an unsatisfactory level of medical risk when it comes to undergoing cosmetic surgery. A fact that probably should have been discussed before that moment, and likely would have negatively influenced Lisa's view of unnecessary elective surgeries.

Driven by desperation, Lisa decides a back alley surgery is her only option, and so with Malcoms full support, predictably there are disastrous consequences.

There is that period in every aspiring filmmakers career where they only manage to produce cringe-worthy embarrassment. For writer/directors Aleshia Cowser-Jackson and Aaron Tyson, "Clinic" is right at the commencement of that period. As a no-budget production, the film ambitiously tackles themes outside the reach of the creators in terms of both skill and insight, resulting in a film lacking both depth and substance.

The film suffers from an inadequacy of thorough research for its script, resulting in an overall feeling of emptiness that permeates every aspect of the production. The set design lacks purpose, stripping away any remaining depth the film may have mustered. Scenes often lack coherence and fail to establish a proper foundation, disregarding industry-specific procedure and norms (particularly those related to healthcare), as well as realistic human behavior and reactions. Characters are flat and one dimensional, almost exclusively acting irrationally and without clear motivation.

There is a distinct absence of character development and progression in "Clinic", and so there are no stakes. No one learns anything, nothing is truly at risk, leaving the audience with little reason to become emotionally invested. The state of generally poor acting from the entire cast further contributes to this issue. Particularly abysmal performances by Rayyaan Jameel and Barry Piacente stand out as red flags to stop watching. Many of the characters seem to serve no purpose in the story, leaving this reviewer questioning their existence. Darla (Roxzane T. Mims) is the perfect example, her only actions and dialogue revolve around using the bathroom, drinking coffee and eating her food "before it gets cold" with no contribution to the story.

The cinematography in the film gives the impression of being captured on an iPhone, although that might not be the actual case. The camera shakes, rattles and rolls with handheld shots that fluctuate between being too close or too distant. Similarly, the lighting is a victim of inconsistency, frequently rendering characters dimly lit without taking into account their skintones and the background, resulting in instances where they are unintentionally reduced to mere silhouettes. In fact, the main clinic scenes are so inadequately lit that it becomes difficult to comprehend how any character could enter without anticipating dire outcomes.

Editing of the film also suffers from a lack of motivation, often feeling amateurish and disconnected from the narrative. Dr. Allen (Shavonia Jones) is a homocidal maniac. Giving her a fleeting explained melancholic backstory does not change this and certainly does not equate to a meaningful plot twist. Ultimately "Clinic" is an amateurish husk of a film which lacks surprise, memorable moments or reason for its audience to care. No sane person acting honestly and without familiar bias would rate "Clinic" highly nor recommend anyone watch it. Instead, it feels like a project that a filmmaker might keep for personal reflection and learning, not as something to be inflicted on others. If there existed the possibility to assign a rating lower than one star to this film, I strongly believe it would be my obligation in honesty to exercise that choice. I wholeheartedly advise against watching this movie, as the moments spent on it are irretrievable and offer no value in return.

Terrible
dario-vete-126 February 2024
I like to watch films with a smaller budget and young directors, but this is really too much. Such an uninteresting and boring movie with below average actors. The camera angles are weird, the dialogues are terrible, the story is pointless, save yourself by not watching this movie. Maybe it would be more lenient with the ratings if the movie was shot in the 70s or 80s with a budget of about 200 dollars. I never give a rating of 1, but this movie deserved a maximum of 2, but because of a lot of unjustified tens, I give it a 1. These days, everyone calls themselves a director and screenwriter. ..

An Amateurish Descent into Unfulfilled Ambition and Cinematic Frustration.
animationstudio-3664815 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"Clinic," directed by Aleshia Cowser-Jackson and Aaron Tyson, is a cinematic endeavor that unfortunately falls short of its ambitious goals. This no-budget production attempts to tackle themes that require a depth of insight and skill that the filmmakers struggle to deliver, resulting in a film that lacks substance and coherence.

The storyline follows Lisa, a stripper with body image insecurities, and her boyfriend Malcom, a final-year medical student. The narrative takes a drastic turn when Lisa decides to undergo buttocks enhancement surgery, despite her rare blood clotting disorder. The film unfolds predictably with disastrous consequences, leading to a series of events that fail to engage the audience.

One of the glaring issues with "Clinic" is the lack of thorough research evident in the script. Scenes lack coherence and fail to establish a proper foundation, ignoring industry-specific procedures and norms, particularly in healthcare. Characters are one-dimensional, acting irrationally without clear motivation, contributing to a lack of emotional investment from the audience.

The absence of character development and progression robs the film of stakes, leaving viewers with little reason to become engaged. The performances, notably by Rayyaan Jameel and Barry Piacente, are generally poor, further hindering the film's impact. Characters like Darla (Roxzane T. Mims) seem to serve no purpose, raising questions about their inclusion in the story.

The cinematography and lighting contribute to the overall amateurish feel of the film. Handheld shots are inconsistent, and lighting often leaves characters dimly lit, detracting from the viewing experience. The editing feels disconnected from the narrative, with attempts at plot twists falling flat, like the character of Dr. Allen (Shavonia Jones), whose homicidal tendencies lack meaningful development.

In summary, "Clinic" is an amateurish film lacking surprise, memorable moments, or any reason for the audience to care. The moments spent on this film feel irretrievable, offering no value in return. It comes across as a project for personal reflection and learning rather than something to be shared with others. If a rating lower than one star were possible, it would be warranted. I strongly advise against watching "Clinic," as it offers little in terms of entertainment or meaningful storytelling.

sad how this generation depend on body enhancement to develop self esteem.
habdulmalik-0735712 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Without giving too much away, 'Clinic' emerges as an engrossing investigation of the protagonist's voyage through the unknown world of a subterranean clinic. It's a well-crafted picture, and the casting adds to the characters' realism. The main character's narrative struck a chord with me, forcing me to consider the reasons why women choose to alter their bodies. It delves further, focusing on problems such as childhood bullying and body image difficulties, indicating that these decisions are frequently founded in deeper, personal experiences.

The capacity of 'Clinic' to transcend the traditional horror movie stereotypes connected with subterranean clinics sets it distinct. It's not only about instilling terror; it also inspires thought. The film carefully weaves themes into its plot, prompting viewers to consider the reasons behind cosmetic procedures.

VANITY UPON VANITY. Nice movie
mrfreelance12 November 2023
This video is more than simply entertaining; it's also a thought-provoking reflection on our beauty-obsessed culture. It's a combination of a comedy performance and a therapy session. "Clinic" is must watching for everyone who enjoys the amusing twists and turns of beauty standards.

But hold on, there's more! "Clinic" goes into fundamental topics related to self-love and childhood trauma behind the laughs. It's like if a stand-up comic abruptly shifts to a passionate monologue, simultaneously making you laugh and cry.

What about the visuals? Consider them to be the brilliant attraction of a well done cosmetic operation. They entice you in the same way that a moth is drawn to a well-lit vanity mirror.

These body modifications doesnt even last long so what is the essence, I guess this just something that deals with being mentally sound.

I am already built in the image of the lord, this movie is really educative and should go viral to teach people to be okay with how they look already.

Insecurities can steer us into deep trouble!
hamzamemories28 September 2023
"Clinic" is a gripping and intense thriller that delves into the life of a stripper. The protagonist battles with deep-seated insecurities about her body, a common issue faced by many in her profession. Desperate for a change and convinced that body implants are her ticket to a better life. The plot takes a dark and sinister turn as the protagonist falls into the clutches of a malicious doctor and the audience is left on the edge of their seats. Overall, "Clinic" is a harrowing thriller that explores the complexities of its characters' lives, while also weaving a dark and suspenseful narrative around a vindictive doctor. It delves deep into themes of insecurity, desperation, and the consequences of the choices we make when driven by desperation.

A Raw Glimpse into Desperation and Transformation
alexandermiles-2795914 November 2023
"Clinic" unravels as a visceral exploration into the world of desperation and transformation, offering more than a mere cinematic experience. Aleshia Cowser Jackson's direction delves deep into the complexities of societal expectations and personal struggles, creating a film that serves as a poignant mirror reflecting the lengths individuals go to redefine their identity.

The storyline centers on Lisa, a single mother navigating the delicate balance between her passion for dance and the harsh realities of survival. When confronted with the stark income disparities among dancers based on body types, Lisa's decision to undergo a Brazilian butt lift propels the narrative into uncharted territory. The underground clinic, initially a symbol of economic desperation, transforms into a battleground for Lisa's fight for identity and survival.

The film's strength lies in its unapologetic portrayal of the consequences of Lisa's choices. As the narrative unfolds, viewers are taken on a gripping journey through the physical and emotional toll of the procedure. Aleshia Cowser Jackson's choice of actors adds authenticity to the characters, making Lisa's story not just a cinematic creation but a reflection of real-world struggles.

I will advice ladies to make sure they dont fall victim to this kind of situation Lisa find herself in.

Stay motivated and develop high.

Thank you
coachfrits20 January 2024
Excellent cinematography. Compelling and relatable story, up until the murdery. Who isn't ashamed of their body, right? At least, to some extent. Thank you, for writing a script that keeps it real. A script that allows the actors to portray real life, without overwhelming ethnic tropes. Thank you for creating caring, intelligent, well reasoned bipoc characters. "Until the lion learns to write, the hunter will always tell the story." Candice Marie Singleton and Alex Will Brooks delivered great performances. They're two young actors on the rise. Keep an eye on them, And you can tell the world that you discovered them before became big.

And before you judge the struggle of body dysmorphia (easy to do when no one else can see into your mind), I have to ask, are you projecting? I struggle with not being tall enough (good thing they don't offer spine stretching surgery for that), I'm not good looking enough. Hell, as young boy through young man, I thought I wasn't white enough (in addition to my African and Polynesian heritage, I am 90% white European. And was raised through the 60's and on, when there weren't people who looked like me in film)., or that I didn't have the blonde hair and blue eyes of my Viking ancestors. I'll step up and admit that I struggle with body dysmorphia. I think it was more a matter of fear that kept me from steroids and plastic surgery. Glad they didn't have calf and pec implants while I was young. Okay, maybe it was because I could afford those options...hahaha. Anyway, look in the mirror first.

A Thriller With a Modern Twist
der_kritiker29 September 2023
Besides the preview of what is to come at the very beginning of the film, Clinic begins pretty vanilla but boy are you in for a ride. But I'm getting ahead of myself. The movie is based on Lisa, a young woman who moonlights as a stripper in order to take care of her son. She is conscious of how much more money her friends with bigger butts make and on the advice of a colleague, decides to seek out a Brazilian Butt Lift surgery. Little does she know that this decision is about to flip her entire life over and almost end it. But the film is more than just a thriller. It exposes toxic aspects of modern society such as body shaming, and the long-term psychological impact it can have on someone. This mix of societal reflection with an interesting story of a deranged surgeon really made the film worth the watch.

Beyond the Surface: Unveiling Societal Struggles and Surgical Thrills in 'Clinic
tylergrowth15 November 2023
Apart from the initial glimpse into what lies ahead, Clinic starts off rather straightforward, yet it evolves into an unexpected journey. But let me not get ahead of myself. The storyline revolves around Lisa, a young mother who supplements her income through stripping to support her son. Aware of the higher earnings her friends with more prominent buttocks receive, she, on a colleague's suggestion, opts for a Brazilian Butt Lift surgery. Unbeknownst to her, this choice not only turns her life upside down but nearly brings it to an end. However, this movie transcends mere thrills; it delves into societal issues like body shaming, shedding light on their lasting psychological effects. The amalgamation of societal commentary and a captivating narrative involving a disturbed surgeon makes the film a compelling watch.

Personal Choices, Relationships, and Medical Responsibilities in 'Lisa's Dilemma
mickygeo-3415613 November 2023
Meet Lisa, whose challenging childhood, marked by relentless bullying due to her body shape, particularly her perceived lack of a prominent buttocks, has shaped her unconventional career as a stripper. Despite her struggles in the competitive world of exotic dancing, she perseveres, albeit with financial challenges that set her apart from her peers.

Enter Malcom, a final-year medical student, whose imminent transition into the medical profession contrasts starkly with Lisa's chosen path. Their unlikely relationship challenges societal norms, with Malcom fully supporting Lisa in her unconventional career. However, the plot thickens when Lisa, dissatisfied with her earnings and anxious about waiting for Malcom's graduation, contemplates a $25,000 surgery to enhance her buttocks.

In a surprising turn of events, Lisa's plans encounter a roadblock as the first surgeon she consults refuses to perform the operation. The revelation of a "rare" disorder affecting her blood clotting factor adds a layer of complexity to the narrative. This critical medical information, seemingly neglected in prior discussions, now raises questions about the ethical considerations of pursuing elective cosmetic surgery in the face of potential health risks.

The narrative prompts reflection on the broader societal implications of body image, self-worth, and the lengths individuals may go to conform to societal standards. Lisa's story unveils the delicate balance between personal autonomy and the ethical responsibility of medical professionals to prioritize patient well-being over elective procedures.

As the review unfolds, it becomes an intriguing exploration of societal norms, relationships, and the ethical considerations inherent in elective cosmetic procedures. The reader is left pondering the deeper complexities of personal choices, societal expectations, and the ethical responsibilities that underpin the decisions we make about our bodies and well-being.

Bitter Truth that is so obvious
elmaburybxp12 November 2023
According to the film, cosmetic operations are more than just a draw for women who are concerned about their appearance. These treatments are the product of societal pressures and girls who, for the most part, lack self-esteem. Lisa, the protagonist, becomes a victim of BBL surgery as a result of her colleagues' pressure to make more money from her dance career. Her companion, however, persuaded her not to go because of low social norms and phony social media. Throughout her childhood, her persistent dread of being ridiculed attacked her passion for her physique. Certain ladies were sucked into the pot of bogus beauty dreams even when she went to the clinic involved in illicit cosmetic surgery.

The film sends a strong message to women who adhere to false beauty standards by repeatedly harming their bodies in order to survive in a fictitious world. These cosmetic operations not only mutilate their bodies, but society also suppresses the virtue of individual self-love. Lisa was survived by a friend who was opposed to these operations, but what about the other women in our culture who have entirely succumbed to this ridiculous standard by losing sight of the value of their bodies.

Unveiling the Enigma of Choices and Shadows
wisemakleen-0045215 November 2023
Within the enigmatic confines of Clinic, a silent dance unfolds, orchestrated by Aleshia Cowser Jackson. The narrative, set against the mysterious backdrop of an underground clinic, invites audiences into a captivating exploration of the human experience.

The first frame of Clinic captivates with its cinematic allure, as the clinic itself becomes a silent observer, immersed in a chiaroscuro of light and dark, bearing witness to the intricate dance of choices and their far-reaching consequences.

This isn't your typical narrative; Clinic resists handing out answers, encouraging viewers to navigate the labyrinth of their interpretations. The Brazilian butt lift, initially symbolic of transformation, evolves into a metaphor for the intricate interplay between personal desires and societal expectations.

What distinguishes Clinic is its commitment to portraying resilience. Characters gracefully navigate the complex dance, rejecting victimhood and embodying the strength of the human spirit amid shadows.

This was beyond the scenes. This is a great Movie
olugboyegaoluwafemi12 November 2023
Aside from the opening scene's tease, Clinic starts off quite conventionally, but wow, are you in for a journey. However, I'm getting carried away. The film centers on Lisa, a young lady who works as a stripper after hours to support her son. She chooses to seek out a Brazilian Butt Lift procedure on the recommendation of a colleague because she is aware of how much more money her acquaintances with larger butts make. She had no idea that this choice will virtually end her life and completely change it. However, the movie is not only a thriller.

This is far better than I anticipated for an independent film due to the appearance of the movie. It contains a few humorous moments. Displayed a few very depressing moments. To put it best, they give people a sense of humanity. Definitely recommend.

What a fantastic movie! The film's opening sequences give the impression that it is a typical tale about the current trend of BBLs, plastic surgery, and people making poor decisions regarding their bodies.

A Nuanced Exploration of Body Enhancement in Modern Society
