Today Yahoo revealed its slate of original comedy slate, which includes shows from Seth Morris, Saturday Night Live writer Mike OBrien, and Ben Stiller's Red Hour Digital. All the shows in new slate will debut on Yahoo Screen, the site’s revamped video hub that launched last fall with a slate of original programming including shows from mega-star Tom Hanks and America’s Funniest Home Videos producer Vin di Bona. Yahoo original video programming attracted over 35 million unique visitors in December 2011, and had 20 of the top 25 most watched online web series in December 2011, according to comScore. Yahoo says that it’s already the “top online destination for comedy” with 1B streams of original material — and hopes to reinforce its claim on that title with some new Web-based video series. Seth Morris will star in First Dates With Toby Harris, a 12-episode series of 3-to-5 minute videos from Funny or Die; Yahoo doesn’t say when it will launch. A scripted comedy Burning Love from Paramount Pictures/Red Hour will spoof reality TV shows beginning this spring. Sketchy from Principato Young/Electus promises 26 weeks of topical shorts. 7 Minutes in Heaven from Broadway Video will run 10 weeks and feature conversations with SNL writer Mike O’Brien. Odd News from Yahoo Studios will run 24 weeks with Greg Proops serving up the week’s most unusual headlines. Funny Or Die is launching new comedy series First Dates With Toby Harris starring Seth Morris and premiering on the recently revamped Yahoo! Screen in Spring 2012. "The series will follow the first dates of a typical La based single guy who has several first dates," Dick Glover, CEO of Funny or Die, told Tubefilter. "Through these dates we will get a humorous look at various dating issues, and a different perspectives on life and situations and the funny ways the sexes interact in 2012." First Dates With Toby Harris promises to "take viewers on a journey of ill fated first dates with the lovable (sometimes deplorable) and always single Toby Harris. Set with Los Angeles as a back drop, each episode centers around a different woman and issue that will leave the audience bickering amongst themselves who was right and who was wrong, and how they would have handled it better!

Yahoo announced today that it is launching a Yahoo Comedy Channel in February 2012 and has inked a deal with comedian Bill Maher to kick it off with a free, live stand-up performance. The content will include short-form videos and both licensed and original programming from the likes of Funny or Die, Broadway Video, Elecuts, and Yahoo! Studios, among others. The web giant recently launched a women’s slate that it said saw almost 10 million streams in its first month.
