Not Bad Not Great

The Honeymooners was not a bad episode of Eureka, but it wasn't great either. Jack and Allison are going on a honeymoon, and it is fraught with physical comedy, miscommunication, and more incompatible behavior than one would think a couple would have after five years of friendship. Frankly it only seems to serve the purpose of setting up an odd (and artificial feeling) plot point from left field. On the other side of the coin is the continuation of the Holly-body story. Since reasonability was abandoned on this story arc a long time ago, it is difficult to get too emotionally involved as a viewer as this installment in the arc serves to try to undo a particularly shocking "matrix" plot point. The viewer can't help but think that everything will somehow work out, and some of the drama is thus lost. There are plenty of interesting and enjoyable moments in The Honeymooners, but there is not a cohesive heart to it, and therein lies its greatest fault.

More Annoying than Enjoyable

I found this episode really annoying across all of the storylines.

The writers and director had an opportunity to add a little elevated drama and tension with the discovery of the cold case. Instead, it's being handled in a sophomoric manner. Jo should know better, given her experience and training.

The whole honeymoon plot was just stupid. I found it stigmatizing for males and females. Jack as the myopic, unromantic husband and Ally as the whiney wife. Almost as if they channeled a 1950's TV show.

I know this show is more fantasy than drama, but it feels like they phoned it in. Maybe the new the end was near and have stopped trying. I have been binge watching this and it's been a struggle to complete this final season.

Backk to the 50's-Father (Jack) Knows Best-Allison wins the "Good Sport" Award-Good golly, Miss Holly. You're flesh and bone (and paranoid).

Warning: Spoilers
If you can ignore the sub plot of Allison and Jack's honeymoon, this episode advanced the story line very well. Unfortunately, it's very hard to ignore. Jack, with brier pipe firmly clenched in his teeth and wearing his corduroy jacket with the patches on the elbows, makes all the plans for a romantic honeymoon omitting one tiny detail: bothering to ask Allison what she wanted. He didn't even ask advice from his best pal, Ward Cleaver. Apparently, since he is a man, he already knows what she wants and takes her to a run down, moldy cabin in the woods. It's complete with see-through walls, leaky, collapsible roof and no running water. It's only ten minutes from town! Allison was clearly expecting white sand, palm trees and room service. She even pack a portable cabana. She did get to take a refreshing mud shower, however. I'm surprised wardrobe didn't dress her in pearls, chiffon dress and heels. It is completely unbelievable and absurd that Jack would do this without discussing it with his new bride. He has a history of going off half cocked, though. Remember his "surprise" visit to Zoe at Harvard?

Not again

Oh yay! Writers got together and thought "what haven't we done since last episode?" "I know" said the lazy guy " we haven't given Allison a chance to whine and complain about Jack!" You know the Jack that saves everyone's life every week. But a woman whining that amazing men aren't doing enough is all the rage. Especially on Eureka.

Oh. We got a twofer with Holly who, after Fargo saves her life multiple times never says thanks but whines about it not being good enough.
