Great

I'm trying to savour this first episode. I usually watch this series in one sitting. I cant save episodes for later as much as I try. Prime has only put out four episodes for now so I am watching as slowly as I can. This first episode has me in tears. I have never seen Bosch this vulnerable. His break down was so touching but I know it will just fuel him to catch the pervert!

I'm happy to see his old partner having more screen time as well. I'm so excited to see how this unfolds. Maddie is not my favourite character but it would suck for Bosch if it were a poor outcome.

So far a great start to a great underrated show!!!!!

A great new start

Finally, the show we always wanted it to be is here. I can blank out the entire first season, which was weak most of the time, and just focus on this, which is the same quality as the original show. This is Titus, Welliver, and Bosch at its best. This is the kind of tension and heart pounding drama the character thrives in. Lintz has upped het game admirably, which is great to see. If they can maintain this level for this season, and then be on this will be the great a show as the original. The addition of Jerry Edgar back into this gives Welliver someone stronger to play off. And I hope even when Jamie Hector departs for his spinoff they can find someone who picks up that slack. Excellent premiere.

It Wasn't That Bad

Good old Maddie. I've always found her tiresome. Now she has allowed her inexperience and her naivete cause big problems. She is now at the mercy of a nasty guy who has been raping women. She has been put away where it would be nearly impossible to find her. I have to agree that this plot is old stuff. It isn't that sometimes the oldies are the goodies, but there is nothing new here. In the past the plots have been pretty sophisticated with a great deal of digging and exposing. Bosch, himself, is a loose cannon. The cliched detective who often works outside the confines of the law. Titus Welliver is one of my favorite actors, so I will give him some slack. But I hope there is something interesting in the efforts to rescue Maddie.

Back with a bang!

Maddie Bosch has been abducted by Kurt Dockweiler, the Screen Cutter Rapist. Jerry Edgar and the team from Hollywood Station LAPD are on the case but a frantic Bosch is determined to not sit idly by. While Bosch and the police follow up on every lead, no matter how small, Dockweiler starts to put his fiendish plan into operation.

I am a huge fan of the original Bosch series and, while still great, Bosch - Legacy wasn't quite as good as the original. I missed the police procedural stuff of the original series as well as the multitude of characters, as Legacy is more narrowly-focused.

By the end of Season 1 Legacy has found its own groove, with Maddie providing the police aspect as seen by a rookie, making for an interesting and original angle.

This, Episode 1 of Season 2, combines the best of the two series. We have the Maddie sub-plot taking to its extreme, Bosch back in police detective mode, a lot of the procedural stuff a rather intriguing, sinister and cunning bad guy. Excellent start to Season 2.

Disappointing Episode
ronaldcwilkinson23 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I can't believe a once great series has degenerated to using worn out cliches.

The cliche in question? A major character is buried alive in a wooden coffin. I've seen this in CSI, Criminal Minds, Kill Bill, Leverage and at least a dozen other movies and shows.

The kidnapper will now bargain with the police using the life of Maddie as a way to get all the charges dropped.

Prediction: Harry will figure out where she is and rescue her in the nick of time. The only way to break this trope would be to have Maddie die.

I guess this episode was written by A. I. or the laziest writters ever.

Let's bury this cliche and leave it there.

What Just Happened?
rtrue25 October 2023
Having read most of the Bosch books, and having seen all of the TV episodes, I have an expectation that the writing is going to have a particular pace and subject matter. The concentration on the personal stories has always been a distraction on the TV series compared to the books, but it was usually interesting enough that it detracted little. Among this is the emphasis on the relationship between Bosch and Maddie. It's always been the weakest part of the series, and unnecessary, in my opinion, to show the depth of Bosch's character. So, now in this new season, we start out by wrecking the whole series, built up over seven years.

Lazy writing, crime cliches, and false emotional moments were never part of this show until now. But, I've invested enough in the series to wait it out, though I'm really tempted to skip past this ridiculous and insulting storyline.

Been there done that

Maybe it's just because I recently watched some episodes of The Rookie, where they show the exact same plot, and I remember Kill Bill very well, but I definitely think that the story of a young female prey stashed in a coffin and retrievable only by her kidnapper has been done a billion times before. It's not thrilling, it just shows a total lack of imagination which is what the entertainment industry is increasingly about.

It doesn't help that the titular Bosch, once upon a time an ace cop, is shown as a whiny, annoying middle-aged guy who mostly gets in the way of detective work. In fact, showing again Bosch's old colleagues makes one feel nostalgic for the "real" show that de-evolved into this second-rate series, without proper investigative interest, without Bosch's amazing house (worth watching the show by itself) but most of all without the ensemble cast that made the original show so good.

This is a cheap production, Bosch lives in a dump and even mega-rich Chandler for obscure reasons moved from her luxurious mansion to modest dwellings. Of course, Maddie will be found unharmed, (not a spoiler, I don't know because I still have to watch the second episode but it's easy to guess), because this Legacy show was mostly about her pouting, boring adventures and I have the bad feeling the rest will be more of the same.

Easily the Worst Episode of Bosch/Bosch Legacy so Far
dra-5135619 April 2024
While not always the most original the Bosch and Bosch Legacy typically both have had strong writing and acting with tight logically consistent storylines attention to detail.

This episode has a cliche overdone storyline you can see a mile away with lots of logistical flaws and out of character stupidity. It is intended to be an intense, highly emotional episode and given the scenario it absolutely should be, but the poor writing and execution of it made it fall completely flat. I found myself bored and just waiting for it to be over.

I really hope this show bounces back and has a return to form, if this is the new standard, consider me out.
