He Pines For Edna May Sperl
boblipton1 September 2021
Rough backwoodsman Edgar Jones loves Edna May Sperl, but she has married Ben Hendricks Jr. Jones invades a dance where the bride and groom are celebrating to snarl a bit, then goes and gets drunk. Very drunk. He steals a canoe and disappears for two months, only turning up at a forestry camp in the dead of winter when Hendricks lays ill.

It's one of several shorts that Jones produced and starred in, one of the few series produced in Maine, featuring the rough lumberjacks that people thought of as populating the state. It's mostly a character study.

Edgar Jones to the Rescue
drednm6 February 2020
A KNIGHT OF THE PINES stars Edgar Jones as a man who thinks he's getting married, but his sweetie (Edna May Sperl) runs off with another man (Ben Hendricks). He goes on a bender and attacks the local game warden (Carlton Brickert) and runs off into the woods.

Later, when he hears that his rival is deadly ill, he goes to the lumber camp where the guy's he's dying and drags him across the frozen landscape back to his wife. A doctor is then able to save his life, and Jones faces up to his punishment.

Filmed in and around Augusta, Maine, by Jones in the winter of 1919/1920. It's so cold you can see the actors' breaths ... even when they're inside!
