Storyline

Plot Summary

Joseph Merrick aka The Elephant Man was a man who gained the sympathy of Victorian Age Britain for the grotesque fate inflicted upon him by a rare and terrible disease later determined to be Proteus Syndrome. 125 years after his death, a team of scientific experts undertake a thorough examination of Merrick's remains to learn and simulate how he moved and functioned with such deformities. In addition, the life of Brian Richards, a modern sufferer of Proteus Syndrome, is explored as he and his family discuss how he has coped with the condition, its nearly unavoidable social stigma and the best efforts of modern medicine to mitigate its relentless progression.
