Warning: Spoilers
Gotta say, not off to a great start here. And I was ready to love this show given how much I love the parent show (The Rookie with Nathan Fillion).

What's wrong? I'm all for empowering people to dress the way they love, but if you're a school counselor or a cop (which Niecy Nash is both in this role-1st a guidance counselor then a fed) then it DOES require a bit of a toned-down wardrobe. But she's running around in what amounts to be a tube top? Plunging necklines should be done only when going undercover.

Then we had the senior agent Stenson (Britt Robertson) character lecturing the used-to-be-vampire-actor about HIS wardrobe being "too tight" but if you look at them standing side by side it's HER pantsuit that would show any weapon she might try to hide in her pants or under her jacket. She's on the verge of camel-toe. Fed Rookie Acres has loose clothing even if it is colorful. So her lecture makes NO sense.

Are the plots implausible? Sure...but this is fantasy cop show fodder that's usually very successful. It takes the actors playing roles that makes it seem plausible to sell it. I can't watch Keystone Cops and believe they'll solve a bank robbery. That mishmash don't work.

I'm really hoping ep. 2 is better. Way better.

Update: tried watching ep. 2 and just couldn't do it. I don't even know what it was about really. 10 mins into it, it's just cleavage and bad writing. That's enough for me. I'm done. Disliked, removed from continue watching, etc etc in my Hulu so I won't have to look at it ever again. =/

Unwatchable
chris-740322 March 2023
Sorry but unwatchable. The main female character is way over the top, extremely annoying and, to be honest, I have seen better acting at my grandson's school plays. The other characters are far too cliched, far too wooden.

A great shame as the premise was good if it had been done seriously.

Why turn it into a comedy, and a not very funny one at that. After 10 excruciating minutes I had to cancel series link.

There are other FBI series that take it all seriously, are well plotted, well written and well acted. This one is disrespectful to the FBI as well as disrespectful to viewers who deseve.

I'm willing to give it a fair chance.
Whitneywest1029 September 2022
In no way am I shading the only other person that has reviewed this episode, because it would seem we value different things in our entertainment. I know a lot of people that watch criminal and cop procedurals with a critical eye so things that annoy them don't get to me the same way. I like to abandon critical thinking and applications to fictional TV shows. I 100% agree that Nathan Fillion is next level, beyond talented. The man could make watching him take out the trash funny or interesting, but most likely both. But I like Neicy in the episode of The Rookie where they introduced her and this show seems to be taking a play from FBI's playbook and making its spin-off seem a little darker in their tones even if you do have Neicy there for comedic takes. No, I'm real life she probably wouldn't make it through Quantico at her age and she doesn't necessarily look the part of physically fit for the role of an FBI agent but in no way do I mean that as an insult. She's still beautiful and the part I love most about this character is her experience being a guidance counselor and how that plays into why she's good at being a Fed. Just like with the character of John Nolan, she brings a new perspective and an oddly informed insight and wisdom to this character. Don't get me wrong, the female empowerment statements had me rolling my eyes all the way back. But I do like the Vampire Cop/newbie story the way it's included. The Rookie has been a binge worthy show for me since I discovered it two or three seasons in and consumed it far faster than I intended or seems possible. So as I said, I'm fully willing to give this show a chance because I remember turning my nose up at The Rookie for years before I finally actually tried it and loved it. So I'm hoping some of the powers that be have found a way to bring at least some of that magic over to this show. I look forward to getting to know this team better and how their dynamics work. So count me in for the foreseeable future.

Show's obsession with main actress' cleavage
jsfurface22 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I want to like this show, but the main character is casted to show maximum cleavage at every opportunity and its a distraction. No parent should allow her kids to watch and let them think its okay. It might have potential to become more, but until this obsession with her cleavage. Truly, its hard to take her seriously at any level and hints at the characters (not the actor playing it) insecurity. All shows have a rough start, and people don't expect everything to be perfect. But if all the character is based upon is that distraction then I can't help but think there is nothing else to her. I tried watching this show in later episodes and even her father points it out but she refuses. It's sad.

Pretty Decent Pilot!!!
tanzimkh28 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The pilot was good, but it could have been better. For example, it could have given some background to why Nash left her guidance career. This was something that was only mentioned in The Rookie but this spinoff could have included that. Similarly, this episode could also have included nash's partner (the one they were calling the actor from vampire cops) backstory to what motivated him to join FBI. I think, except for that, the whole pilot was amazing. It had all the all the elements that we love about The Rookie show. Can not wait for next week's episode. The only thing I hope for is to see Nash facing more challenges that Nathan Fillion faced in his rookie days.

New worst show on tv
Racingphan218 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Move over Station 19, we have a new Worst Show on Television.

This Nash woman is the worst actress in the history of television. Her croaking voice is grating. The balloons on her chest pushed into our face are hideous.

The guy who played the most famous drug lord in the history of television is an FBI boss? No, Carlos is a villain.

Britt Robertson from Life Unexpected and Under the Dome is brought in to add some credibility, but to no avail.

I can't understate how awful this is. I like the Rookie, but this is pure trash.

Now I have seventy characters left to make the required six hundred characters.

This show is so bad
MacAndCheese4U20 April 2023
Bad wriring all the way. No imagination. Compare storylines with better call saul, mr robot, succession and so on.. You will soon reailise that good shows require caracter developement. This show is so bad and i cant believe they just keep doing crossover events with The rookie and ruining The rookie as well. I hope this show doesn't see another season. In the rookie the main caracter just wines about her problems which are not unique. I could write a better show on a bus on my way to work. Writers have to put some (A LOT) work in every episode. I can not stres this enough. It seems as this was written by 19 year old without imagination.

Gratuitous, insulting to female FBI agents...and viewers
bachNbrahms17 February 2023
This does NOT contain spoilers...

The character of Simone is irritatingly over the top. How the FBI seriously would hire her is beyond reason. She does not act professionally, no matter how 'cute' or ostentatious her personality is supposed to be. Sure, she is supposedly hired because of her propensity.to 'think outside of the box' and be 'unorthodox' but that does not mean she has to be disrespectful to her colleagues.

Nor would the amount of cleavage she enjoys displaying ad nauseam. Really? It's distracting, unattractive and hardly empowering to female FBI agents or actresses who have been trying to steer clear of 'sex kitten' stereotypes and other ways Hollywood views women. Simone's chest-baring wardrobe ignores any efforts towards the creation of female characters who have more dimensions than cartoon-ish females. The actress, Niecy Nash, seems to be most interested in marketing her own brand than developing a truly interesting humorous female character with any authenticity or depth. The show's writers are lazily employing Niecy Nash's brand into the Simone character - her extreme cleavage which leaves nothing to the imagination, her freakishly long fake fingernails and her croaky voice.

If Niecy Nash does have a vocal disability then apologies. However she seems to be putting it on, exaggerating the creakiness which won't help her disability and d fails to evoke a sultry, sexy persona. It only makes viewers want to keep clearing their throats.

Just as gratuitous as her constant breast exhibitionism is her character's swearing. From the two episodes we've been able to view in the UK thus far Simone is the only character on the show that swears and can't stop. None of her colleagues seem to pepper their language with 'damn' or 'hell' as easily or in all scenes as does Simone. If this is the way the writers feel they need to make Simone a unique character who stands out from the rest of the FBI crowd their succeeding...only by making Simone tiresome and grotesque. Again, behaviour not professional or becoming for FBI agents in the office setting.

I don't see how Niecy Nash's or the writers' character of Simone is supposed to be representative of gifting any female FBI agent with empowerment by implying they adopt Niecy Nash's brand. Not just the FBI but school guidance counsellors as well. Amazingly unbelievable !

The show can still be fun - suspending reality is the great escape. The character of Simone can still be interesting, 'unorthodox', and brash without making her so smutty and unbelievable. For now, this Rookie is not someone worth investing extra hours in.
