Argentina's Valentin Javier Diment won himself a lot of love in these pages with his La Memoria Del Muerto (Memory of the Dead), his deliriously strange 2011 effort that played like the bastard love child of Sam Raimi and Dario Argento. And while Diment has certainly kept himself busy in the years since as a producer, writer and director he has not returned to the director's chair until now with El Eslabon Podrido (The Rotten Link).A dark - you might even say grisly - black comedy about the residents of a remote village turning on one another, Diment's latest has been selected to take part in the Blood Window Galas at the Cannes Marche du Film and we've got the first trailer - subtitles included...

When you give your film collective a name like Gorevision, well, you're setting a certain standard for yourself. A standard of quality and good taste. A standard that the Argentinian collective that has given themselves that name fully live up to assuming, of course, that your version of good taste includes severed limbs, street punks and blood drenched girls in bikinis.Gorevision's latest effot - feature film Los Super Bonaerenses - comes with gonzo La Memoria Del Muerto director Javier Diment attached as a producer and the trailer promises an absolute parade of 80s style excess with its story of hard ass cops and street punks. Take a look at the English subtitled trailer below....

Ah, Argentina, the land of (seemingly) many, many crazy directors seemingly all too happy to spray blood and breasts across the screen. And among the craziest of the crazy is La Memoria Del Muerto helmer Javier Diment, who I once made the mistake of going shot for shot with before making him write a drunken review of his own movie. The next day would have been quite painful if not for the fact that I was still very much drunk when I woke up. And also that I had a guardian pouring pints of water down my throat before I was allowed to go to bed.But I digress.Diment moves from behind the camera to in front of it as one of the stars of Gonzalo and...

Argentinian director Javier Diment has long been one of the unsung heroes of the Latin American genre scene, a director who frequently overcomes his limited resources through sheer force of will, creativity and vision. Though his films have often been rough around the edges there's no denying that Diment is a talent just waiting for his chance to break through. And it may have just arrived with La Memoria Del Muerto.Diment's latest feature is his strongest piece of visual work yet, the teaser showing a pronounced giallo influence as it strings together a run of striking and disturbing images. It's a piece that rewards repeated viewing with new details popping out every time through and surely a sign of very good things to come....
