Writer/director Keith Gordon discusses with pleasing honesty his debut feature movie "The Chocolate War" in this interesting and illuminating 51-minute interview. Gordon notes that he was very fortunate with his first film that producer Jonathan Krane let him make the movie that he wanted to make on his own terms, talks about how he spent a lot of time with the auditions for the two main characters, reveals that he wanted to cast his future wife Rachel as Lisa (Sheryl Lee also auditioned for this role), praises John Glover for treating him with respect as well as doing a big monologue while seriously ill, cites cinematographer Tom Richmond as a great collaborator, and, of course, explains why he changed the ending of the book. Worth a watch for fans of the film.
