Death Dealer with Tom Savini, The (2010)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
This featurette can be found on the 30th Anniversary DVD/Blu-ray of MANIAC from Blue Underground. The 12-minute interview features Tom Savini who talks about being the king of gore, his early days before MANIAC and eventually how he got hired on to do the film. Savini said he got paid $5,000 but mainly took the job so that he could hang out in New York City for a few months. Savini talks about the various effects he had to do and how he ended up doing the part of Disco Boy. Savini is always great at telling stories and we get some pretty good ones here including a repeat telling of the car Disco Boy was shot in and how they dumped it into the HUdson River. Savini jokes about what's going to happen one day when someone finds this car. Other stories include meeting Sam Raimi who asked him to view footage of THE EVIL DEAD and fans will want to sit through the end credits because Savini comes back with his thoughts on the MANIAC remake. If you're a fan of the 1980 slasher or Savini then this here is certainly a must see. If you've seen Savini interviewed about this film before you might not learn anything new here but it's always fun listening to the man and his stories. It's worth noting that Savini says Caroline Munro was on the set at the time some of the gore was shot while the actress says in her featurette (ANNA AND THE KILLER) that she wasn't around when any of these films were shot.
