Maniac Men (2010)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
When fans picking up the latest release of MANIAC this featurette here was probably the one they were most scratching their heads about but it turned out to be an incredibly entertaining little gem. The featurette starts off with William Lustig giving some text on how legends and rumors have grown out of the FLASHDANCE song "Maniac" originally being written for his 1980 slasher. Lustig, on camera, travels to Pennsylvania where he sits down with Michael Sembello and Dennis Matkosky, the two men who wrote that song and they set the record straight. Lustig tells them that Joe Spinell told him that the song was originally written for the slasher film but the writers said this wasn't the case but they had watched the movie back in the day and they viewed the movie simply because they had already picked out the title. In doing research, the title led them to the Lustig film. This rumor had been around for years and Lustig even talks about seeing it repeated on VH1 so it was pretty funny getting the truth out there but even better is at the end of this thing they joke about writing a pop song for the remake of MANIAC and the two men sit at the piano and come up with some fake lyrics based around some of the killings in the movie. All three men are obviously very amused by some of these stories and this comes off very well here. If you're a fan of the movie or song then this here is a must see.
