Sebastian's second case
Tweekums3 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
The second episode of this two part story opens with Sebastian discussing his newly discovered daughter with his psychiatrist; he seems to accept her advice not to tell Vanja that he is her true father and reluctantly agrees to go to the psychiatrist's next group session. Here he carries on his womanising ways by seducing one of the other patients. The next day he tries to get work helping the police with their latest serial killer case; one that bears a striking similarity to a case he solves fifteen years before. It seems like it is just a copycat until the next killing… it is the woman Sebastian had slept with! He goes back to the police station and as he looks at the photographs of the first three killings he realises they are all women he had slept with over the years! Solving the case will take him and Vanja to prison to interview the original killer and ultimately put them in a situation where one of both of them could be killed.

This was a fine episode; in fact I think I preferred it to the first one; Sebastian and his daughter make for an interesting detective partnership; largely because she holds him in utter contempt for most of the programme. Rolf Lassgard does a fine job in the role of Sebastian; Moa Silen is equally entertaining as his daughter Vanja and Niklas Falk is suitably creepy as the original Killer Edward Hinde. There are of course plenty of clichés; such as the killer being abused as a child things like this can be forgiven though as they are a staple of the genre. For the most part it is a mystery but once the killer has been identified it switches to being a tense drama with a good action scene near the end. The ending signalled the possibility of further series but with Sebastian and Vanja reconciled I'm not sure it would be as interesting… and with the amount of time that has passed I'd have assumed they'd have made more by now if they were going to.
