Linear and unsurprising plot but outstanding action genre
martinblasko-7065913 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
No major twists or deep philosophical are to be expected from the plot, which is fully manichean (although this dualism is realistic concerning the horrendous methods of the terrorists).

Nevertheless, the action scenes are beautiful and leave you stuck to the screen. A "pity" that only a single Russian dies in action, whereas in real life seven Wagner's servicemen passed away during the embush the film portrays; indeed, this makes the Russians look almost "invulnerable" amidst the firece fightings, which appears excessively unrealistic.

The main characters are moving and the acting excellent, with "Granit" himself deserving a special distinction for his special blend of Nordic-like detachment and genuine passion.

If you are a russophobe to whom only Americans or Westerners should be portrayed positively, do not waste your time on this film.

PMCs work "Wagner" in Mozambique or a Good modern Russian action movie
lyubitelfilmov18 May 2023
A military action movie. After watching the almost documentary film "The Best in Hell", I decided to check out two more action films about PMCs fighters "Wagner", namely "Tourist" and "Granite", and today we will talk about the second one. Moreover, all these paintings were created with the help of this most famous military corporation of Russia. I expected only a good action movie from the picture - in the end it turned out to be. And here 's my brief opinion for you - The work of PMCs "Wagner" in Mozambique. There were both advantages and disadvantages in the picture, which should be mentioned. That's where I'll finish the introduction and get to the point: So, the advantages: 1. The story told - the picture tells us about a group of PMCs fighters "Wagner", whom the high authorities send to Mozambique (at the insistent request of the local government), so that they train the local army and police units to resist local Islamic militants. After all, Russians have been remembered in Mozambique since the Soviet Union. An experienced specialist under the call sign "Granite" commands a group of our fighters. Arriving at the scene, our boys understand that the locals are clearly hiding important information and do not really want to fight with the militants, although these same militants are killing their civilians. Of course, the star stripes, who have their own reasons in Mozambique (rich gas fields in the north of the country, where the uprising of Islamic militants is burning), get into this business. In parallel, we are told the story of a local boy and his brother, whose militants killed the whole family, and they themselves were captured and forcibly want to turn into similar killers. There is not a lot of politics in the picture itself, and it is introduced solely for context. Our guys are being heroic again, although the authorities forbid them to do so. The ending is a little tragic, but leaves hope for the best, especially since the war in Mozambique continues now, but government troops are clearly defeating the militants, which is the merit of our boys.

2. Fighting - all according to the rules of military tactics and strategy, taking into account local conditions of course. Jungles are not steppes, it is extremely dangerous in the jungle, especially for a white man who knows nothing about them at all. And our guys, and the soldiers of the Mozambican army, and the fighters of the American PMCs, and even the Islamic militants act competently, although the locals clearly look worse against the background of white specialists. Add in the creepy African traditions, especially for a white man. Well, the clashes themselves are staged and filmed perfectly, you get pleasure from them. After all, I grew up on the action movies of the nineties, and here the fights themselves turned out. Yes, maybe they are not so dynamic and dramatic, but here they emphasized the realism and professionalism of the military, for which I thank you very much. And thanks to the creators for showing the blood and other delights of the war, but it was not worth stuffing the mat, because it was here in the subject.

3. Mozambique - I wouldn't be surprised if the picture was shot in this mysterious country in southern Africa, which our military experts have known well since the seventies of the last century. Its own atmosphere, a bizarre combination of Portuguese heritage and Soviet names, the contradictions of the local government, which runs from one country to another, corrupt local politicians and the military, who only seek to enrich themselves, and spit on their people from a high bell tower, and local residents, who are terrified by militants, then American PMCs, or even militants under the leadership of American PMCs.

So, disadvantages: 1. Context - it is very lacking, and you will not get off with the text at the beginning of the picture if most Russian youth do not even know where this Mozambique of yours is (thanks to the Unified State Exam and Fursenko personally). It was necessary to reveal in more detail the relationship between the USSR (and now Russia) and Mozambique, what connected us, what we fought against together, why the Islamic insurgency arose in 2019, and so on. It's all missed. In general, the screenwriters are not very good at a competent story, they are more able to fight. We've already figured that out.

2. Our boys are not disclosed - yes, they are charismatic, yes, they are professionals, and we see it in the picture, but who are they in life? How did they become like this? Who is "Granite"? Why does he always want to be a hero? What was in his past? I'm not asking you to disclose all thirty Wagnerians, but at least five people (department commanders) should have been disclosed properly, but even with memories, or through dialogues. But the screenwriters don't know how, they know how to fight.

Despite these shortcomings, the picture looks quite cheerful, you worry about our boys, as well as for the local boy and his brother. Nothing more should be expected from this picture. It remains to check out the "Tourist", about which I have heard so much.

My rating is 8 (for high-quality fights) out of 10 and my recommendation for viewing!
