Broke Down!
kensirhan-8619814 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This "Breakout" as I find them all was well-executed, save for - as in "I (Almost) Got Away With It" which also had a segment on old D. W. here - the imitation cop cars that look lifted from that production. But they get props (no pun) for, given the timeframe, having the fugitive driving a correct-year Jaguar; far too often these docus don't even bother with the right color/make of vehicle(s), much less attempting even to come close to the actual year. The bloody riot scene at Darrington and the shots-fired jailbreak were effectively staged - as brief as it was, that charnel-house chow hall conflagration ought to be used as an educational tool to show Misguided Youth what they can expect to experience if they don't change their ways. "It is most regrettable" that old D. W. won't do an exit-stage-left from his current confines until he's boxed up & carried out, but such are the wages of crime. I wish that this "Breakout" had had a lengthier run, like "IAGAWI," since there's Plenty & To Spare of escape stories they both could've told for years to come. Well between them we still have a good store of infocation!

"Such a waste" though. I can easily imagine how many viewers were not only glued to the reenacted and recounted escapades of this fleetfooted fugitive but also bemoaning not being able to get them a slice of that goodlooking pie! The Menendez boys, for example, were deluged with contacts from seriously desperate females even before their deserved convictions, so even in his current state dude should have a line stretched down the block & around the corner! Soft-spoken, articulate, & somehow despite his long time locked up, this D. W. Hope was tattoo-free & whistle-clean - on the outside. Happily those so inclined can drool without reproval since he didn't kill anybody, but that he earned a decades-long sentence that far too many killers DON'T is not something that can just be shrugged off. He's a Very Bad Man who just happened to not look it while he was committing armed robberies. The besotted will hopefully find and/or already have one who looks as good as the inside as he presents on the exterior, and can say "Hey! You know you look like this Texas desperado I saw on TV!" while enjoying the fruits of both good looks and good character.
