Shallow and Silly Romantic Comedy
claudio_carvalho10 September 2011
In Rio de Janeiro, Tatiane (Cléo Pires) meets her boyfriend Marcelo (Dudu Azevedo) on the day of his birthday and he breaks with her, claiming that she is not romantic. The unbalanced Tati enters in the class of the biologist Conrado (Malvino Salvador) and hears his lesson about evolution, where he tells that the modern women have destroyed years of evolution with their attitudes and lack of romanticism.

Later, Tati meets Conrado on the street and she offers to work with him in his thesis. Conrado teaches Tati the correct behavior of a woman and how to seduce her mate. Meanwhile Marcelo feels jealous with Conrado that feels attracted by Tati and learns that his theory is not correct. The triangle of love is formed.

"Qualquer Gato Vira-Lata" is a shallow and silly romantic comedy. The predictable and unoriginal story is weak and uses the idea of "Pygmalion", "My Fair Lady" and "Educating Rita", with an older man teaching a younger woman how to behave, and falling in love with each other.

When I see a comedy and do not laugh, something must be wrong. The jokes are not funny, and car crashes (three times), driving reckless, inappropriate laugh of a student in classroom or a man stumbling in the treadmill, for example, never work. Cléo Pires and Dudu Azevedo's characters are unpleasant and absolutely empty, but at least Cléo Pires is hot. My vote is three.

One of the worst romantic comedies I've ever seen

The producers of this thing wanted to make a Brazilian copy of the typical silly and cliché USA romantic comedies, they wanted to make a mediocre film, but they managed to get something worse and more despicable.

Here, there are no charismatic performances, all characters suck, and the plot is even more nonsense and shallow.

I just wanted all the main characters to die, there's absolutely nothing good or interesting about them, it's just silly people doing silly stuff for 1:30h.

I better stop. Writing about this "movie" is depressing.

The movie is a romantic comedy. Any one that loves the gender will like it.

I specially liked the character Tati, played by Cleo Pires. She is just wonderful. The crazy and passionate way of dealing with things was just an extension from the famine public that was not afraid of laugh of their own neurosis.

The story is not really amazing but the way they tell it is very funny. It starts slowly but after a 10 minutes you is completely involved with the characters.

Alamo Facó, The Ex-boyfriend's friend is one of the funniest guys i ever saw, everybody was talking about him after the screening.

My comfort movie

If you're not Brazilian I guess you won't feel the same, I've seen these actors on novelas (soap operas) since I was a kid, one other review said this is trying to be an U. S. A romantic comedy, I don't think so.

Men will hate this gratuitously because of misogyny, but I think the movie has a lot of charm, Cleo has a lot of appeal, she is really pretty and you can understand our male protagonists for linking her, she is really upbeat and bright.

The comedy is what makes the movie for me, me and my brother always quote some of the best lines, such as "é o Guru" and "um whisky duplo", this movie will always make me smile even if it's a silly movie that is not trying to be that serious.
