I didn't see that coming.

Just got this on postal rental for no other reason than I was bored and picked some films to add to the list. However, what a happy happenstance because it's a quirky winner.

A quintessentially British comedy about two brothers attending their fathers funeral in an isolated country village. What happens there after can only be described as a continuing episode of one disaster following another after they discover some unexpected money at their fathers house. But who does it belong too? Who knows about it and who or what is the local Bobby up to?

Any more would be giving the game away.

It's well acted and really quite amusing in an often laugh out loud kind of way.

Well worth the watch.

Bunch of lazy cliches that doesn't add up to much

I think this is trying to be some kind of 'Withnail' cum League of Gentlemen, but fails on both counts. Parodies of vicars and village policemen are overdone and, in the latter case, hopelessly miscast. The script is grotesquely contrived, the acting variable, the stunts low-budget and unconvincing. Like a book that you plough doggedly through in the delusional belief it will come good, but give up on the last chapter (as I did, 5 mins from end because I'd lost the will to live)

Bought the Blu-Ray the other day, expecting a nice dark comedy in tone with my own sense of humor and boy, I wasn't disappointed. Reminded me a lot of the original "Death at a Funeral",not as good, but very very close. The fact that it's filmed in black/white adds to the dark mood of the film, reminiscent of the good old movies made in the "Arsenic and old lace" style minus the slapstick comedy. The acting is top notch, brilliant actors portraying all the wacky characters you expect to find in a small English village in the middle of nowhere. My personal favorite is a draw between the gay vicar and the oddball policeman.I won't go into the story, but I highly recommend this film to anyone who appreciates the English sense of humor. It's a brilliant little gem of a film that deserves a wider audience.Wish I cold have seen this in a cinema.9 out of 10.
