The One At The Jersey Shore...
taylorkingston29 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode. It's pretty much the writers of Bones making fun of the Jersey Shore. It's okay though, I love the inside jokes.

In this episode, Bones and Booth are sent to the Jersey Shore to investigate the murder of Guido. They identity him as Richie "The V" Genaro. A partier. Just living life down at the Jersey Shore. It's really funny and sad to see everyones reactions to the fact that Richie is dead. And the people from the Jersey Shore. Too much make up and too many hair extensions. And too many tans. Just too much of everything, pretty much.

I love when Bones becomes very interested in the Jersey Shore culture. Thinking they're like their a whole different species.

Overall, I give this episode an 8 out of 10.

Arms of Steel

The whole thing is sort of weak. The Guido culture is so contrived that it never rings true. A body builder is murdered and it turns out he hangs out on the Jersey Shore to have fun, but he is actually driven to do better things. When everything is sorted out, his death proves to be a strategy, the motive really bizarre. What is pretty funny is that Brennan has been researching this subculture (a bunch of drunk kids), has learned their activities and their language. She actually interprets for Boot at one time. The subplots are again about babies being born (Angela) and Booth's new girlfriend moving in with him.

The One Where Hannah Moves In

Warning: Spoilers
Hi Bones Booth Pod!

I know this episode isn't a favorite for most people in the fandom, but I don't hate it. Yes, the Jersey Shore storyline is silly, but I am not opposed to ridiculous storylines, especially if they provide some much needed levity to an episode. If nothing else, it certainly is one of the most memorable episodes of the series. It is also nice to have Fisher back, since his appearances in S5 were few and far between.

The most important aspect of the episode revolves around Booth and Hannah's decision to move in together. To reiterate some points I made in my last review: I do not dislike Hannah or her relationship with Booth. However, opening the episode on an intimate scene between the two of the them feels intentionally cruel for Booth and Brennan shippers to have to see, especially when it's presented in a way that feels like it's being shoved in our faces. On the one hand, I understand that Booth is in the "honeymoon phase" of his relationship with Hannah, and with that, comes the desire for lots of physical intimacy. But, I am just not sure why we as an audience need to see it happen every single time. The entire scene could have been cut from the episode, and the story wouldn't have been impacted.

It's hard not to feel like much of Booth and Hannah's relationship is built upon their physical attraction to each other, and not much else. Maybe that is why we see so many of their intimate scenes? Despite the fact that she is willing to move in with Booth, Hannah doesn't know him that well. She hasn't met Parker yet, and she doesn't seem to understand a lot of his motivations, and vice versa. Without Brennan's help, I am not sure that Hannah and Booth's relationship would be able to sustain itself long term. That is evident by the fact that when given the opportunity, they invite Brennan to be a third wheel on all of their dates. They don't seem to know how to have alone time as a couple, when it doesn't involve physical intimacy. That's a red flag.

As usual, Sweets serves as the voice of reason, by pointing out that Booth and Hannah's dynamic has changed now that they are back in D. C. and even if Booth is not ready to listen to those observations, I am still glad that Sweets voices his opinion.

Silly but also one line really hits deep - not a great review cause it's mainly 1 thought. also - I do love bones' humor and banter this whole episode!

Hi bones booth!

This episode used to be so silly to me & of course it still is but towards the end of the episode when they catch the guy who is guilty when he says the line "what can I say, they all look the same".. that sentence struck me SO DEEPLY on one of the rewatches in the last few years. Like it stung it felt louder than any other time I watched this episode because this time it hit me how that and excuse we've heard time & time again when cops incorrectly arrest someone who "fits the description"... the way that sentence lands coming from a person of color.. it felt so real & raw. :(

This show has never been shy about being racist, but this episode is very silly too! Bones has lost her mind and is just ridiculous. An awful episode!
