Warning: Spoilers
Stella Tomlinson (Vicky McClure) drives a taxi in Nottingham. Working long shifts, well into the night. A woman whose life fell apart as well as her marriage when her teenage daughter Maisy was killed three years ago.

Now her murderer Charles Stone (Johnny Harris) has agreed to a scheme to take responsibility for the murder. It might bring solace to the grieving relatives.

At first Stella and her ex husband Paul are not keen on this. Later Stella relents and goes to see Charles.

What she hears from Charles shocks her, it was not what she expected to hear.

The first episode of Without Sin is a slow burner. What looks like a story about grieve and maybe redemption is turned on its head.

It becomes a conspiracy of some kind once Charles reveals that he is not the killer. Another teenager was also murdered that he had nothing to do with.

Suddenly you sense Charles is in danger in prison. Stella might learn unwanted truths as she strives to find out more.

Superb first episode.

Taxi driver Stella Tomlinson and her former husband Paul are asked to meet with prisoner Charles Stone, who three years ago killed their daughter Maisy.

A tense, slightly uncomfortable watch, it plays out so what differently to the traditional crime drama, normally it's about the crime and the subsequent investigation to catch the killer, this skips the first two stages, and goes one step beyond, the acknowledgement and the why.

That was an incredible twist, that was some bombshell dropped at the end of the episode, talk about desperate for part 2.

I suppose it asks one pretty hefty question, what exactly did Stella do, and who is without sin, Charles or Stella?

Vicky McClure starred and co produced this series, she is an incredible talent, I have a feeling she was styled to look as different to Kate (Line of Duty) as possible, a wig that even a guest star on Murder, she wrote would have been dubious of, she was outstanding here, credit to Johnny Harris also, who also co produced it, awesome as Charles.

9/10.

Vicky McClure is fast becoming a national treasure

Amazing actress, great ensemble cast. Some familiar faces from This Is England.

Set in Nottingham,, a woman finds herself drawn into questioning everything by the man convictef of murdering her fourteen year old daughter.

Enough going on to keep you second guessing, with gritty, real actors, well written and emotionally charged. Johnny Harris plays a terrifying yet sympathetic and vulnerable man who is one of the few actors who could even begin to equal the calibre of McClure.

The programme is binge-worthy, only four episodes - which you really should treat yourself to.

My only issue, and it's only minor, was the wig that even Vicky McClure couldn't breathe life into.

Definitely one of the best actors of her generation, an absolute pleasure to watch in any show.
