A good attempt
christopher-393498 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is a low budget attempt at a high concept movie. It got me to watch it, and I'm pretty jaded.

Plot: a cheerleader/influencer finds herself abducted in a Saw-like situation where she has to make social media content to stay alive.

Unfortunately it's a little preachy and UNBELIEVABLY predictable. And I mean everything is predictable. From the first toe removal (with no pain that happens off camera and while she's unconscious) that she never checks, you know that the whole thing is a set up.

Also, the lead actress is just too aggressive to be real. I'm not sure what the writer was going for with all the "boys are stupid" statements. I think there were about five of them. Was he portraying the girls who said it as sexist, or was he trying to say that boys are actually stupid.

While the concept was good (although executed better in the Saw franchise), the acting was a little wooden, the sound was all over the place and the plot held NO surprises.

Hey Guys, It's Kelly.
nogodnomasters30 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Kelly (Marie Luciani-Grimaldi) is the head cheerleader dating the QB. She is wearing a red cheerleader's outfit with a pentagram and 666 on it for the Devils. And as we first meet her she is tied to a chair. Her captor's name is Charles (Simon Phillips) who is both polite and abusive. Kelly has over 400,000 online followers and is an "influencer." Her captor discusses the negative aspects of social media and wants her to win her freedom by getting l,000 likes in an hour. This increases upward as Kelly gets more daring in her poses for more likes per time. In order to help persuade her another girl is placed in with her and she is threatened if Kelly can not perform.

I immediately like anything that has a blonde cheerleader tied up. After that point, I kept waiting for a climax as the story intensified. The main problem is I had figured things out so there was no surprise ending. They talk about the problems caused by social media but never show them. They just blame those who want their 15 minutes. Potential

Guide: F-word. (Cheerleader is a potty mouth). No sex or nudity.

a manifesto...
ops-525357 March 2023
Of a man gone mad over the new era ,private and professional, digital and social media influencers, the gurus of the internet, a hate towards the selfienation en masse'.

Kidnapped, being hurt and freezed out, she finds hope in the other end of the rope when a fellow influencer, also held in captive shows up in the girls ''cell''. This leads to a battle that may end in freedome or catastrophic death...

its a small cast, noedigital nouvelle , a story about how modern society has become, a digital war of the influencing world, its not much new on the market, and follows the rules of the genre, the acting is merely average, and the sets are few and not very much challenging, a studioproduction that doesnt impress that much...

so if you are like me, having difficulties swallowing the message of these newage dramas, its not a buster on the block, if you understand a grumpy old man. Just a tiny tiny recommend.

It's Kelly.....
arfdawg-119 April 2023
The movie starts off strong but quickly goes downhill with poorly storyline, poor writing and crummy directing.

Early on, it becomes tedious to watch, due to the really bad sense of timing the director has. It's slower than mollasses and I lost total interest before 20 minutes were gone.

It's THAT bad.

The plot is just miserable and unrealistic. The guy who plays the maniac is decent but he has a one dimensional character.

Kelly on th eotherhand is annoying and completely not based in reality.

The peripheral girls areall really bad actors.

In the end the writing is really really moronic. It's like it's written by someone who had a message but not the intellect to translate that into a story.

Waste of Time and Poorly Researched
faithrandolph-2007513 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Normally I don't write reviews, but this movie genuinely offended me with how poorly it handled it's own subject matter. The movie ended and the only thing I felt was disgust for the male gaze writing / camera angles, and lack of respect for their "strong female characters".

I feel as though the writers for "Deinfluencer" genuinely believed that this is what a strong female should be, but the irony of the film was so jarring I could never take this movie seriously. She was shamed for causing a 6 year old to commit suicide when it wasn't her fault, and shamed for being "tantalizing" and "arousing" when that is the ONLY power the movie gave her. She had to strip for Charles so he could take photos of her to get 10k likes in two hours. She also discussed taking naked photos with whipped cream over her nipples and abused "lesbian" scenes for views. Great and dandy until you remember these plot points were not written or handled by women. They seem to be an excuse to dress up pretty women and make them do things that appeal to the interests of the director.

Also, If you are going to make a movie about "likes" and "followers" and Influencer culture, at least do research about algorithms and the CORE of the problem of why women feel they need to pose airbrushed photos and half naked pictures online. They give these women ONE strength in this film, and that was "arousing content sells" and punished the female leads for exactly that.

The IRONY of "women are too arousing and its not the REAL them" statement that the film tries to make is COMPLETELY undermined by the amount of upskirt camera shots, use of lesbianism in a purely tantalizing way. As a lesbian this is highly offensive.

But the subject matter... Hot sexy cheerleader is an influencer on social media, and an older man who doesn't understand social media kidnaps her with the intention to make her "more humane" or... something? But nothing he does accomplishes that goal. I am not sure what the director was trying to accomplish here. Any time the girls were nice to each other and trying to save one another, the man in the movie, "Charles" would MURDER one of the new girls! I have seen the "punish the influencer" plot thousands of times, and this movie did nothing to make that narrative make sense.

Our protagonist "Kelly" is kidnapped, traumatized and made to believe she caused the death of TWO innocent women and had her kidney and toe taken. All the while she is put into stressful situations where she has to find out how to get a certain amount of likes in a ridiculously low amount of time. To no fault of her own, the only thing that works is sex. She is abused beyond belief... and at the end she is THANKFUL for it.

In short, the point of the film was mute. Yet another movie about "if you have social media you CAN'T live a NORMAL life." It makes no sense, and I wish these kinds of movies would discuss a healthy balance, or how social media is great for running a business and making your monthly rent by learning the algorithms of each social media platform!

But no... social media is bad and women are bad for posting their bodies. It felt like the movie was trying to empower women while also telling them to not use social media. So in short, it's takeaway message seemed to be that men should be allowed to use violent tactics to control women by shaming their use of social media and how they chose to portray their bodies to the public. I was not a fan.

Unrealistic, low budget film.
terriloveorhatebrooks26 January 2024
The lack of realism in this horror movie makes it uninteresting and tedious to watch. I tried to stay focused on the movie but lost interest and forced myself to finish the movie.

Based on the repetitive scenery, I get the impression that this is a low-budget movie.

The action that unfolded was not portrayed in a realistic manner, resulting in me rolling my eyes in disbelief.

If you are someone who enjoys horror movies, you may find that this particular film does not provide the same level of horror that you typically enjoy when watching a horror movie.

It was hard to finish. I love horror films but this movie wasn't for me.

The guy who said this is better than Boondock Saints drinks paint
maksimovic-1468516 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was abysmal. From the second all damage is done off screen it's apparent the other characters are all in on it. Dudes daughter died because he was a terrible dad, my guy was like she was six she killed herself. Like bro did you de-safety proof the bleach?

Pacing was whatever because nothing felt worthwhile in this bottom of the dollar bin, we have Saw at home, utter turd-fest. The message seems to be "Influencers are bad because I don't know how to mitigate what my children see and also the best solution to this kidnap people and pretend that they are posting on social media but that point gets diluted by forcing it to be sexual and the repeated "OMG BOYS ARE SO DUMB" like bro... like I just... This seems like the writers thinly veiled fetishes like cheerleaders and kidnapping and the most boring vanilla lesbian actions.

Somehow at the end of it, this is the worst movie I've seen in years. I mean that earnestly. If you want something that does the social media influencer thing better watch any of the following: Spree, Dashcam, or Cam.

If you watch this and think it's really hitting the mark, I beg you touch grass and make sure your bleach is babyproofed.

Honest review

Warning: Spoilers
Very good film. The plot twist was crazy I genuinely thought sabrina and Jill had died. Very underrated film and definitely worth a watch. I really enjoyed meeting the characters and the scenery of the building was cool. The villain in the story had a really good message and did a good job of sharing it Acting:9/10 Great scenes and the emotional scenes were acted brilliantly Plot twist/Ending:10/10 Most unexpected ending I've ever seen and the plot twist was crazily good.

I really enjoyed this and it is worth a watch. The characters are cool and the overall message put out there was don't incredibly.

Nice idea
bowmanblue14 December 2023
'Deinfluencer' is one of those 'straight to DVD' films that used to exist back in the days of 'physical media,' only now it's probably more fitting to say 'straight to streaming service.' It's cheap, but whereas that could be considered an insult to some movies, this is 'cheap' simply in terms of it being set in one single place, almost as if it's a stage play that's been adapted for moving pictures.

A masked man kidnaps a social media 'influencer' in an attempt at making her see what - he believes - is the true 'reality' of her lifestyle/profession.

It's heavy on social commentary and is pretty blunt in terms of its 'politics' and perhaps your enjoyment of the overall film will be based on how much you agree with today's obsession of documenting your whole life online for the world to see.

As I say, it's all set in one place, i.e. The secluded place where the hostage is kept. Therefore, you basically know that neither the victim, nor the kidnapper are going to be killed in the opening ten minutes, so you have to wait the full hour and a half before finding out either of their true fates.

Now, both leads perform well, but maybe the main criticism is the film's length. Despite the engaging performances the film does go on a bit too long. About halfway through you're probably going to 'get' all the points being made, so anything else that follows does feel like they're really going overboard with their hatred of social media and the like.

However, I did enjoy the performances and the social commentary made a change. There are a couple of things within the story that you might not see coming, but even me - who doesn't often pick up on 'twists - actually guessed a couple of things that were to come. Overall, not a bad hour and a half if you find it on a streaming service.

Noble and good - and not valued I am sure
supermaggie11 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Hallelujah, it's possible, there are current intelligent horror movies. And I'm talking about really intelligent movies here, not the kind of intelligent Saw has always been labeled - how intelligent is it/how is a person supposed to value their life by being forced to massively hurt and harm themselves? That's just sick. A lot of people like that, no doubt, but it's not intelligent. And Jigsaw is certainly not a hero or cool. Completely different from Charles in Deinfluencer, this movie is really clever and deals with a red-hot and extremely important topic: social media and its negative effects (on everyone), and Charles does a great job. It was clear to me from the start what was happening, or rather I had hoped it would go that way, but it is still exciting and extremely satisfying and meaningful, which cannot be said about many current (just disgusting) horror movies. So why does Saw have an audience of millions and 9 sequels (where nothing relevant/new is ever added) while this fine little film is an insider tip, if anything. Not because it isn't as intelligent as Saw, but because Deinfluencer is actually intelligent, and Saw is just bloody and disgusting. And it doesn't matter how believable the happenings are, since the movie has a noble goal. How many movies besides Erin Brockovich are realistic? Not every horror film has to be clever, but when a horror film is as sensible and good as Deinfluencer, it's very pleasing at times. Thank you for that and please more like it, even if the majority don't appreciate it.

Best movie since boondocks saints
jeffreynolds-9761818 May 2023
Forget all reviews, I am a movie freak who has seen well over 10 000 movies. This movie has obvious scenarios but lots of hidden twists. The small cast performs well and believable. Yes I figured out plot twist, so I thought. Great movie because i.was wrong. So basic plot is someone is kidnapped, social media influencer, and has to reach a certain amount of likes to survive, intact, til next like amount. The whole movie is an overexagerated emotional engagement, that if we're not true, wouldn't be as engaging. It makes you reevaluate the importance of fake friends on social media and whether or not social media is good or bad.
