This Christmas Eve ep of "Your Hit Parade" is the very first time I've watched this program
tavm16 December 2017
For years, I've heard of this program-a countdown song program that came years before Casey Kasem's "American Top 40"-as being a mainstay of first radio and then television. Each week, they count down the Top 7 hits, not necessary in numerical order, backwards ending with No. 1. Among the hits showcased: "Love is a Many Splendored Thing", "Memories Are Made of This", "Love and Marriage" (Later used as the theme song of the TV show "Married...with Children"), and "Sixteen Tons". Since this was live during the holidays, the show also had performed on it, "Deck the Halls", "Winter Wonderland", "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", and "O Holy Night". Also, some of the numbers were performed at the skating rink at Rockefeller Center. And commercials for Lucky Strike and another sponsor whose name I don't remember were shown in between. Overall, this was a quite enjoyable first ep I've watched of "Your Hit Parade".
