The combination of Blair Witch, Deliverance and something "chainsaw" ... is Massacre.

I was quite humorously surprised when I saw this videolised story of utter horror and mayhem, a movie with very direct and a quite a bit disclosing title, "The Massacre".

I decided to have it as a B option on an easy evening after a hard day's work in Peniche and, as option A utterly failed -"getting laid with some sweet surfer girl", got stuck with that.

This movie, as the synopsis says, is about a group of young people that go to picnic, tries to have fun and meet a disaster in form of a killer along the way. Well, it is not.

The Massacre is a story about a killer. A killer that is so typically and so over repeatedly of the rural descent and at the same time a killer that lurks the lowlands in an unknown region of some unknown country, but as they speak Slovenian, we can presume that it should be stated "somewhere in Slovenia" at least. The Killer is shown in a short period of his, presumably summer or early autumn, time, lurking the forests and those above mentioned lowlands, rental lodge houses and free for all picnic places, hunting for his prey. This is the setting of our majestic story of horror and mayhem.

The whole story is shot with a candid camera, that could be counted amongst the best in good old '60s or '70s, but now is found lacking. The colors are horrid, the lightning is terrible, even though I found the lack of it in some shots very, very funny, but... Sound environment is surprisingly a combination of innovative approach and catastrophe, as the director chooses some quite interesting songs for musical accompainment, but in general, spoken words and a rare longer sentence, are sometimes barely distinguishable between other sounds of surroundings, and to top it all, all the cast speaks quite heavily accented local dialect, that is unsubtitled barely understandable even to the native speakers.

Actors are quite funny bunch of, as much as I could read and understand flying through the credits, people with familiar ties. That in itself increased the horridness in the movie ... or maybe neuroimpulsed a capital wish for many and plenty a show of incestuous acts of coitus and other sexual intercourse and similar activities between the lead two actors, shown as "a couple", or the craziness of realization that an entire Slovenian rural dynasty became dedicated to alternative movie- making, propagating alcoholism or showing the obnoxiousness of being a serial killer as a domain, reserved exclusively to the rural population.

To draw the bottom line, so not too much words are spent to describe this horridness of a movie, its recommended only if a second choice is death or worse.
