a great effort of an up-and-coming director, but definitely has its flaws

The Parasomniac is a great effort of an up-and-coming director to create a suspense/thriller. The 2nd half of the movie is paced extremely well and provides a conclusion that leaves you guessing. The acting is solid, and the main character Robert, provides a believable take as a guy who never catches a break and becomes jealous of living under the shadow of his more successful roommate. The first half of the film drags somewhat, as we learn more about the main characters' lives at an unnecessarily, and at times, a painstakingly slow pace. It would have been better if the character exposition were cut in half. The story really picks up when we start wandering along with the main character, questioning what's real and what's not. What is real is that this is a valiant attempt at offering a new take on a suspense movie, giving us a flawed/human character that doesn't know if he's made one mistake too many. Overall, it's a solid attempt/interpretation of a suspense movie that is worth watching. Final grade: 7/10.
