Very good, if not great, season 6 premiere
gridoon20243 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
After the shocking cliffhanger(s) of "The Incident", one major (among many minor) question was torturing the minds of all the series' fans for months: did Jack's plan to alter history succeed or not? In typically audacious "Lost" fashion, "LA X" responds: yes AND no. We are transferred to an alternate 2004, where the Oceanic flight 815 from Sydney to Los Angeles lands safely, with nearly all of our familiar figures on board. But we are also transferred to the same 2008 we left behind, where everything we have already seen happening has happened. Did the bomb go off? Was it another time-traveling flash that brought Jack, Kate, Sawyer and co. from 1977 back to 2008? It remains to be seen. The purpose of the alternate reality also remains to be seen, although it's great fun to see characters like Boone and Charlie back, Kate in kickass mode, Sawyer fully sarcastic, etc. "LA X" is particularly good at creating a feeling of disorientation and confusion, and is full of startling appearances of characters where you least expect them (Desmond on the plane, Jacob to Hurley, Cindy at the temple, Claire in the cab, etc.). There are a couple of startling DISappearances as well - most notably Desmond and Christian's coffin from the plane. But "LA X" is not ALL questions - there are some answers, too, particularly about Jacob's enemy, the forms he can take, how much he knows about the real John Locke, etc. The one part that I didn't really like is how they brought Juliet back for one episode, only to kill her off for good. If that was their purpose, they could have left her "Incident" scenes as her final ones (though she did get to deliver the post-mortem message "It worked"). Overall, a very enjoyable premiere that certainly leaves you hungry for more. Best performance: probably Matthew Fox, though all of them are strong. Best line: "You're the monster!" - "Let's not resort to name-calling". *** out of 4.

Better then S01E01. You bet it is.

Just plain and simple...awesome opening episodes.

I think this opening episodes are even better then first episode from season one.

That's how good this is. Just amazing...and i think it's just getting better and better.

I hope that some answers will be answered but there are so many of them, so i can just hope they will.

All in all storyline, emotions in acting, musical score...i think in next ten years,or even more it's going to be hard to beat this TV show in all categories that i mentioned.

sorry to let you see me that way

One of the interesting things is that now you will know something creepier about the black smoke. And I like how they dealt with Juliet. We heard they will cut her out of the show but at least they dealt with it elegantly. The matter of being cut out of this show doesn't make any sense as we all now agree that it's just the matter of time for you to come back. I hope I will see Juliet again soon. It felt great to feel the LA touchdown and how thing would happen if all of this had never happened. It was just so emotional to experience it, especially when the whole show has become part of your memory. YOu feel like you were one of them. I felt home when sitting down watching the show. Something is still really wrong ahead and that's how you just can't wait to see What Kate Does soon.

I love the actors. They are just so good.

What an exciting episode at Season 6 of Lost
kastri_gr4 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode of Lost was much more interesting than i had expected myself. We can see what is happening after the explosion of the nuclear bomb where some how it appears that it is created a parallel universe in which we see the main characters how would they live if the plane had not crashed on the island but in my opinion i think it is a Little bit different.Perhaps on next episodes we will find out what they are planning to do.Also we have the revelation of the mysterious black smoke and who is the man behind John Locke. The thing that made Lost a successful show is that each episode has questions and clues.Great premiere and i cant wait to see the third episode.

Parallel Lost
TheLittleSongbird26 August 2018
When 'Lost' was in its prime, it was must-watch television. Remember first watching it, found it remarkably easy to get into, was hooked from the start and was on Season 3 by the end of one week. The general consensus is that the final season is a disappointment and cannot disagree.

Having said that, that disappointment is not to be had with the Season 6 opener. While not one of the best 'Lost' season openers, "LA X" is a solid start and shows initial promise, showing many of the qualities that made Season 5 generally solid. Not everybody was a fan of some of the Season 5 episodes, while some episodes were better than others certainly, the overall standard of pretty much all the episodes ranged from decent to fantastic.

"LA X" is a very good episode, albeit not one of the show's best. It's taut and thought-provoking, providing some questions as well as some answers here. The on-island events are emotional and above all gripping.

Do feel that some parts could have done with more clarity and also was not crazy about the treatment of Juliet, such a great character and the re-appearance just felt like a pointless missed-opportunity.

On top of all that, it shows plot progression rather than repeating itself or being filler as such. Admittedly there are episodes that advance the characters more and having content that enhance the mystery and make it go somewhere. There are surprising moments and also illuminating ones, like with the parallel personalities.

Also found "LA X" to be an episode full of entertainment value, tension and emotional moments. The more dialogue-driven parts is a case of it being thought-probing, relevant and adding a lot rather than slowing things down and rambling. The character dynamics are surprising and with interesting perspectives and the little shocks do shock. The episode is never dull.

Can't fault the performances, everybody here is never less than great and it's hard to pick a standout.

Nor the stylishness and atmosphere of the visuals, nor the effectively understated and chilling use of music, taut writing and the tightly controlled direction.

Summing up, very good. 8/10 Bethany Cox

Disappointing Parallel Realities?
claudio_carvalho21 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Miles, Hurley and Jin awake in the Swan Station hatch that is totally destroyed and they hear Juliet alive. They try to rescue her while Hurley is met by Jacob that tells him to take Sayid to the temple to be saved. Meanwhile in a parallel reality, the Oceanic Flight 815 arrives in Los Angeles with Kate and Charlie arrested.

"LA X - Part 1" is a disappointing conclusion of the last season with parallel realities. In the island, Juliet dies and Sayid is almost dead; in the airport, the lives of the passengers go on, with Kate and Charlie arrested, Rose sick, Locke crippled and so on. My vote is seven.

Who cares if Kate is a great criminal.
kgarrett1930 August 2022
It feels so forced to have her escape over & over. Not realistic. Like yeah we know that she's one of the higher paid actors probably but just let her get arrested and don't force this fake plot like that she's this escape artist. She was a murderer and deserved to get punished for that. Dislike feminine heroism forced narrative is not virtue signaling to anyone.

And the rest part of this review will be me filling the 600 character limit. So I hope that this feels a little bit, but if not I'll write some more. So just ignore this part. But the review still stands. Turns out 600 is a lot more than I thought so I'm going to keep writing until I don't get denied. Because I love the show but I think that does Kate narrative is so forced and not helpful or realistic at all. Sawyer is amazing though!

Bomb unexpected side effects, fresh new character development and brain teasing questions but one disappointing story arc
igoatabase7 February 2010
Note : This review covers parts 1 and 2 of LA X

The Final Chapter recap was so well done that I naively jumped right into LA X crosshair with the mind full of the past events. Of course I remembered that Juliet successfully detonated the bomb in The Incident but my memory of what happened to some other characters wasn't as fresh. The story took off right after the big white flash. Considering how the past episodes were twisted and the writers's imagination amazingly vivid I really didn't know what to expect. Of course the adventure involved our favorite characters from "gorgeous don't mess with me" Kate, "romantic con" Sawyer to "not so man of science" Jack without forgetting the mysterious Johns Locke.

But what really happened to them ? And what about the island ? Did they land in Los Angeles as first planned ? And who's really the man behind Jacob's death ? All I can tell is that if you enjoyed the past seasons for their unpredictable and surreal arcs you'll definitely not be disappointed by this two hours premiere. As previously you'll get answers but the new developments also arose many deep questions.

All the elements that make Lost so fascinating are back, from the mystical vibe to the character connections jungle. Last but not least even if it wasn't perfect I don't see how someone could be disappointed by it. We could ask for much more but I know the best is yet to come and it's going to be one hell of a season. In fact the most surprising thing about LA X was the character development. We just never saw the characters like that. Remember how Jack and John's profiles were switched in Follow the Leader ? Well you better lose the compass because it's apparently pointing two directions at the same time. But Daniel Faraday and Desmond Hume taught us that time is relative and not a constant so you'll have to watch it to understand what I'm talking about.

Where are the answers?
realtvhrdbfq-19 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I am a huge fan of Lost and this show is one of the best in the history of television. But, after 3rd season finale, writers leave "the village atmosphere" of characters behind and emphasized on secrets of island. This was inevitable and I do not deny it, but 5th season raised too many questions and now, in 6th season, I want to be answered to these questions: Who are "the others", where did they come from, who is the guy who possessed Locke's body, etc...

But in this episode, I did not see anything like an answer. I saw more and more questions, puzzles, secrets. I saw something happening, but I don't know the reason of it.

Even though, it is good to see characters from first season...
