Writer/Director Christopher L. Golon has something to say in 'Visions of Violence,' his first film.
This odd film is about teens/twenty somethings and what makes the film work is the 'feel' that it holds over the viewer. Now, the film doesn't have a traditional beginning, middle or end, thus leaving many parts of the film to just flow and thus, most of the film's structure is open to interpretation. Now this helps the film.
The acting is what hinders the film. As do some of the weird visuals. But back to the good stuff - by having no real conclusion to the film, (the film itself just seems to come to a halt), after we've been caught up in 2 of the principle characters and their situations, I was left feeling as if a phone call was hung up on me - it just ---
Well, you get the idea. And this is like life - some things just end without closure...I wish more films would do that. Who says that all films need a resolution? With that, we get a filmmaker who gets it.
The other good parts are the wacky characters (especially those 2 nutty guys sucking air out of whipped cream cans), and the way the workers try to fight the customers!! Each character has their own introduction and that's really cool! the Kooz vs Andy fight is nuts!; the closing of the video store is downright bizarre; and what gives with the 'Vanilla' video?
This is a good film - it needs to be seen, at least to see where Golon came from and where he's going.
