best this year

I think this is the best episode of this season. It contains two very intriguing plots that are extremely well written. One involves a psychic who hires Magnum and Higgins to prevent a murder and the other involves stolen jewels formerly owned by Imelda Marcos. All of the regular cast members have their good moments, but the always great Amy Hill is put to particularly good use here as Kumu who has some history with the jewels and Imelda herself. Director Peter Weller does a fine job of unraveling both stories in a captivating manner and the casting department did an excellent job of assembling some fine guest performers to assist the regulars. Particularly good are Helena Mattsson as the psychic's client, Christine Juguta as Imelda, Peter Navy Tuiasopo as Kumu's cousin, Sally Jackson as a rival to the psychic, but the real find is Charlotte Mary Wen, who plays Kumu in flashback as a young woman (36 years ago). Wen is totally believable as a young Kumu, very much resembling Amy Hill's older Kumu in appearance, facial expressions, and manner of talking. All in all, this is a fast paced hour, with some time even devoted to rather serious and touching scenes between Kumu and her cousin, Magnum and Higgins, and Higgins and the psychic's client. In addition, it's always a pleasure when Rick's restaurant features local musical talent and here we have Paula Fuga singing "Beautiful Face" to nice effect. The regular cast and the stories of this show just get better with every season and this is an excellent example.

Would have been an 8

This was a lot of fun and well written and acted - glad to see Kumu ( Amy Hill ) have a bigger roll - she may be the best actor of the bunch . The show moved and was a decent mystery to boot - It would have been an 8 and I would agreed with the overall ratings except the Doc is still in the back ground like a bad smell. Higgins is sleeping with the dirt bag but it looks like the show runners may be setting the stage for his exit - if not - they are setting the stage for the shows exit.
