Spike tunes it up
bkoganbing5 January 2019
Replete with the usual items that sub for musical instruments, Spike Jones and his City Slickers give us their musical version of the Blacksmith Song. The old village smithy never sounded better.

Donald Grayson's sings the song and I was waiting for him to get smacked upside the head by the trombone. We also saw two men in a horse costume actually getting musically shod.

Better than the anvil chorus.

Spike Jones' Blacksmith Song was another of those Soundies I watched on YouTube
tavm26 July 2011
This was another Soundie I watched on YouTube. In this one, Spike Jones and the City Slickers are at a reopened barn with Spike playing the title character who tries to put a horseshoe on a "horse" (actually two people in a costume). If I didn't read the comments afterwards, I wouldn't have known the song was a reference to war shortages. Anyway, while the song was pretty entertaining, there wasn't much that I thought was funny in it or the "music video" made of it. This was yet another one of those that originally played the Panorams (film jukeboxes) at restaurants, bars, and train or bus stations around the country. Anyway, Blacksmith Song is worth a look if you're interested in this sort of thing.
