At first I thought this interview-style episode would be a nice change from the ordinary. But it wasn't. It got boring, dragged out too long, and was lame and cheesy in equal parts. If only part of the episode had that style, it may have worked. But doing in throughout, if was a fail. Please don't do this again.

It was like watching documentary and a bad one at that. Interviews , Camera following police doing practically nothing - the story was awful, the Choreography was worse - Hard to believe the producers allowed this dog to be put on the air. I rated this series an 8 most of the time but this was an unpleasant surprise - if this had been shown in the first few episodes of the series - it would have been cancelled in mid season. I hope the show runner can find a job flipping hamburgers at a fast food franchise because taking a good show and turning it into trash in 45 minutes takes real talent - but not in the movie business.
Huh?

Dropping this episode in the middle of season 3 makes absolutely no sense. Has nothing to do with anything the series is about. It takes me back to the days of "a very special episode" except there is nothing special about this. It seems as if they lost the episode that was supposed to be in this time slot so just put something together in 10 minutes. An hour of my life lost.
Absolutely awful

The Rookie has had some good episodes, some surprising episodes and some bad episodes. This particular episode is by far the worst episode. For those people who enjoy Reality Crime TV they may have enjoyed this but for everyone else this was abysmal. Whoever decided this was an episode that deserved to be aired needs to be fired.
What happenned to the show?

People who found this episode dumb probably didn't see the point. Can't blame them, USA's not really famous for its critism and caricature mindset.
The plot, editing, interviews, cam footages, social media etc... look really dumb if you take it seriously as a usual Rookie episode. But this is just a way to make fun of those true crime shows and Hollywood cynicism. This episode is all about parodying and mocking. Having Frankie Muniz playing a former kid star is the best example (although Rain Wilson mocking himself was very hilarious too).
10 to balance for the bad reviews, but overall, 7 or 8 (this was more of a special episode, didn't the point of having it in the middle of the season).
Why all the hate? Decent episode.

Never take the reviews too seriously

I have learned never to take the reviews on this platform too seriously... surely an episode with a 3 star rating would be horrible.. not the case here. This episode was filmed in the style reminiscent of a Netflix true crime documentary. I will say this is very different from the usual show so viewers without a sense of humor may not like it. It was more of a crime comedy and I was laughing from start to finish. It wasn't the best episode of the show or heartfelt in any way but it was worth a few laughs! I enjoyed it. Keep an open mind going in.
Worst episode ever!

This is the worst and stupidest episode of this show. It's supposed to be a cop show, but this episode has little to do with police work. I don't care if it is meant to be a farce or to actually appeal to people who live in Hollywood. It's crap.
I like the original concept of this series, but it has become clear that the producers and writers are flailing around wildly, throwing crap at the wall to see if anything sticks.
Boring as Hell

This season hasn't been bad at all. Show had me hooked since the first ever episode. This episode was so boring and pointless. I felt as if I was watching a documentary or dateline nbc. No action, no excitement. Hopefully they don't try something like this again.
You don't like it? You don't get it!

Besides doing an amazing job at wrapping up plot holes from the previous season, this episode is so unbelievably well written that it had me laugh from about 2 minutes in. The sarcasm is so obvious that even if this would be the first episode you'd see of this show, you'd realize this is a piss take. The scenes with Tim and Chen alone are comedy gold. Then seeing Frankie play the character he plays is just the cherry on the cake.
I don't understand how and why people are giving this a bad review. Please watch it again, this time keeping in mind all those Netflix documentaries that take themselves WAY to serious.

After heavy plotlines week after week, this made a nice change.
amorehl-93-993381 March 2021
What a wonderful episode! Off-beat, light-hearted, humorous, and (best of all) free of politics! After all the heaviness of the previous episodes, it made for a refreshing change of pace. Frankie Muniz, who actually was a child star, did a great job, as did Rainn Wilson -- as even more of a nut job than Muniz's character was. A lot of the lines were really funny, the writers must have had a great time, spoofing all the (deserved) Hollywood clichés. I wish writers would do more of this sort of thing, instead of infusing every show with their likewise-clichéd politics and PC-ness. And the reviewers who hated it need to lighten up a bit and just enjoy what was clearly just a one-off; I'm sure all the stories about how the world is a prejudiced, evil, horrible place will be back next week.
But for this week, nicely done! The writers even topped it off with a surprise ending that you don't see coming.

An Interesting Subversion that fills in gaps in the series.

Might be the worst episode so far.

I used to like The Rookie. It was funny and quirky but also quite warm. Then things got dark. Fast.
They murdered off too many good people. They had a lot of morbid, overly serious plot lines, the serial killer was especially out of place. I thought the show was supposed to be a comedy sans laugh track. And it was good when thats how they played it.
Now its a really bad drama and its getting worse. This latest episode shown entirely in documentary style not only doesnt fit with the show, but its pretty bad as a stand-alone episode. Its not as good as a real documentary or a mockumentary from someone who knows how to do it. The guest characters are all so cheesy they cant even be believed. And most of what we know about the main characters gets thrown out the window. Its a terrible episode of television.
I wish they'd go back to the trials and challenges of a 40 year old rookie. If thats not working they need to cancel the show, or find a new angle. Like Nolan is made a training officer and has to take on rookies of his own.
Most importantly keep it fun. Thats the only time the series feels successful.
