The Rookie: True Crime (2021)
Season 3, Episode 7
2/10
Might be the worst episode so far.

I used to like The Rookie. It was funny and quirky but also quite warm. Then things got dark. Fast. They murdered off too many good people. They had a lot of morbid, overly serious plot lines, the serial killer was especially out of place. I thought the show was supposed to be a comedy sans laugh track. And it was good when thats how they played it. Now its a really bad drama and its getting worse. This latest episode shown entirely in documentary style not only doesnt fit with the show, but its pretty bad as a stand-alone episode. Its not as good as a real documentary or a mockumentary from someone who knows how to do it. The guest characters are all so cheesy they cant even be believed. And most of what we know about the main characters gets thrown out the window. Its a terrible episode of television. I wish they'd go back to the trials and challenges of a 40 year old rookie. If thats not working they need to cancel the show, or find a new angle. Like Nolan is made a training officer and has to take on rookies of his own. Most importantly keep it fun. Thats the only time the series feels successful.
