Touching Indie

this film is apparently inspired by true life childhood events of the director and writer Brian Cwikla.

This film is very touching and a testament to the long-term pain that can result from a child being picked on by his or her peers.

The main character is going through his life paralyzed by events from his past and I think this is often the case, more than we'd like to believe.

The picture looks great.

The acting is superb.

The writing is heartfelt.

this film is worth watching.

Only So-so

my personal opinion is that this film kind of dragged on. The story was just not that interesting or ground-breaking. I felt like I'd seen stories like this before. Here were the things I liked: 1.) At times the slowness of the film made it feel like a dream which was interesting 2.) Some of the acting was pretty good. 3.) The cinematography was good quality, something I've grown to believe is rare with indie films.

Here are the things I didn't like (sorry): 1.) The story didn't always seem clear... it felt like a lot of talking to explain what was going on. 2.) The actor who played the lead was not always believable as a person with disturbing psychological issues... at times I felt his acting got in the way of the story. 3.) The movie felt long... its no longer than a normal movie, but it felt long which means I was anxious for it to be over.

I give this film a 7 because it is an indie film and there are obvious limitations when making a film with little money. I give the film makers credit for that.

Kind of a cool idea

Warning: Spoilers
The feeling I got from this film was this: you can't hide from or outrun your problems... eventually, you must face them.

The main character of this film seems to have done OK for himself by keeping to himself and just accepting that people wear him down or pick on him. He has an OK house and an OK job... things seem OK. He has agreed to just live a life of being bullied, as if that's a reality some people just accept.

When his past literally runs into him and takes him on a date, he's forced to remember how he became such a passive loser.

I like how this story was put together.

My main complaint is that his "dark side" that keeps trashing things for him could have been better orchestrated. Also, the main actor never gave me the impression that he had found any real strength at the end of the film, which was the implication in the story.

Over all, I thought this film was good film and worth watching. Kudos to the Director Brian Cwikla. This was his first feature and those always seem to be the hardest.
