I'm writing this for the whole 3rd series, as I have just finished watching this amazing series.
Germany is conscripting younger and younger men/boys to fight in the war and making commanders of them. As such, they are valuable and "allowed " mistakes, especially when their parents are well connected. They are also bringing in less desirable types onto their elite u-boats, which doesn't go down well with some. For the first time we see the enemy British in action against the u-boats and the tragic demise of their battleship commander, who despite initial appearances, is a man of honour.
As ever a series full of human back stabbing, political intrigue and interplay, the Hoffmann family featuring centrally as does the excellent Forster. First class performances from the actors especially from the newer "sewer rats" crew on U949.
An emotional rollercoaster of a ride, the series somehow made me forget the real horror of war and instead focus on the individual human stories being told. I was often left stunned, shocked and sobbing uncontrollably as the quality of the story telling and acting was so good. I was left looking forward to the next series as two estranged characters were reunited at the end and we said an emotional goodbye to one, who turned out to be another man of honour as we suspected. I'm off again 🤧
