Fun & Enjoyable
hdfam2 June 2023
We did not know what to expect after reading some of the critical reviews. But we found this totally enjoyable! We can only think that the people who did not like it, 'because it did not live up to True Lies,' didn't actually watch True Lies. Because others suggested this was a semi sequel, we watched the 1994 movie yesterday. Also, fun, but way over the top and not particularly believable. This is better.

In Fubar, Arnold is Arnold. Anyone expecting him to be Tom Cruise or The Rock simply hasn't watched enough Arnold. No question he's getting older, but he's just fine in this role. And Monica Barbaro is awesome....an actor who's on her way, wow!

I enjoyed it & want more

Warning: Spoilers
Being a HUGE fan of True Lies (the movie, NOT tv series which is terrible) I wanted FUBAR to work and after the first episode, it did. Arnold is great but the premise is fantastic. I don't want to give away any spoilers but it will be difficult to not do so. His daughter Emma, played by Monica Barbaro is a chip off the old "Arnold" block. Their meeting out in the field which was unexpected from a viewers point of view was perfect.

There have been a few similarities between FUBAR and True Lies, the movie, you have to look for them. The rest of the cast, Barry, Roo, Aldon and Carter really add to the cast.

YEA, I want this to work.

Featured Review about the Languages is about stupid!! Why have that as a Featured Review?! IT'S AN ARNOLD SHOW!! (hard eye roll)

This is Classic Arnold Fun! Why would critics waste their time reviewing this? This was enjoyable to watch. Not a deep story to follow. Arnold movies never needed much in the way of depth, just action and fun one liners. If you want Emmy and Oscar level stuff, I believe folks are smart enough to know where to look.

Having said all that. It hurt my heart to see the age showing in Arnold. Supporting cast is fun and there is chemistry. The humor flows well and doesn't fall flat. Very quippy.

An insult to Belgium
Mathi-Juice30 May 2023
I saw another review heavily downvoted for saying something about the languages. Let me clarify.

Not all people in Belgium speak OR dutch OR french. There is a german speaking part in Belgium too. Very small but it's there. Belgians are also very capable of speaking English. But! It doesn't make sense for the scene to take place in Antwerp and then the dealer guy and Arnold not speaking dutch. They try to make the scene believable by having Arnold 'attempt' some dutch in the car. I say attempt because that sounded NOTHING like dutch. I couldn't even make out words. I know german and that wasn't it. The languages sound alike, but for someone who speaks either or both, it's a huge difference. They should have made the dealer guy speaks dutch (which makes sense because that's what people speak in Antwerp) or just English. A missed opportunity to make the scene believable.

As a Belgian, it was fun to see Antwerp in a big production series with Arnold. But there was no effort put into the actors speaking dutch that was not terrible and could understand. I really think they used google translate and just made the actors listen to that.

I agree with the other review that this is quite insulting. But it's not important to the show or anyone watching that doesn't speak it. So it's not important but makes a viewer from here really confused and it's hard to watch.

The stupidity of filming in another country and ignoring it
jeroen-10626 May 2023
So many B-productions, and sometimes even A-productions, fail to do basic research. I've seen it many, many times and it's insulting.

You get an entire crew to Antwerp to shoot there - which is cool - and let the protagonist speak partially German? You let a business partner speak "Deutsch" (not Dutch)?

I mean, between the moronic writer all the way up to the director and actor, you wonder why no one stepped in and said: "you are mixing languages"!

The country speaks French and Dutch. The Flemish Region of Belgium (or Flanders) is a Dutch-speaking area in the country's north, and one of 3 Belgian regions. The national capital, Brussels, considered its own region, lies near Flanders' southern edge.

I'm not going to waste my time on a generic action hero under the direction of a moron.

This was bad
sdqftq29 June 2023
This is among the most bland, predictable and cliché episodes of television I have seen. It's got a variety of "he's right behind me" type humour, an uninteresting plot, lack of foreshadowing on future events, and some of the most bored writing I've ever watched. It's like everyone in the writing room was bored so they were trying to write it as fast as possible, going with the most predictable events as possible. Arnold is surprisingly bad in this, but I believe that to be a product of the writing and not him, you can tell he's doing his best to salvage what little quality this had, but just couldn't. The rest of the performances were of a lower quality, but again, mostly do to the writing. What especially upsets me was that my family turned off Uncut Gems, which I was loving, so they could watch this. I don't recommend watching this.
