Yep, it's gonna be one of those episodes. It's basically The Man Called Flintstone: Jetson Edition. George is mistaken for a super spy, and hilarity ensues, but I'm jumping ahead. So as our story begins, a narrator brings us up to speed on how man established himself and herself on Earth and how their lives are all 9 to 5, but on a neighboring asteroid was the headquarters of SNEAK, an evil organization dedicated to destroying this peaceful society...so they're the government basically? Anyhow, this wicked place is run by the beautiful, yet evil Scatahara. But on the flip side is the one man who is destined to overthrow this evil organization of terror and bring peace and justice to the galaxy again: Space Bong, Agent Double-Oh Double... boy, does he look familiar. Anyway, back to our show: George Jetson was at Spacely's sprocket sweatshop slaving away, like he does in every other episode. What started off as a typical day, would soon be a non-stop roller-coaster of excitement, which started off by Spacely informing George that he and the missus will be dining at the Jetsons' place tonight, something pre-arranged by the wives, but Jane was nice enough not to tell George about it ahead of time. So he sulked home just in time for Jane to send him out again with a mile-long list of things she forgot to get...great preparation for a dinner party there, Janey. I mean, it's not like the kids could do it for him. Judy's too busy with her hair and Elroy has to use a machine to clean his room for him and Rosie... well, you get the point. So George goes out to buy the eats, unaware that Scatahara, flying in a jet she borrowed from Darkwing Duck apparently, passes by at that exact moment, and predictably takes George to be Space Bong...Oh, is she in for a surprise!
So, while the Spacelys show up early, Mr. Spacely grumbling about his hunger all the while, George is abducted and taken to SNEAK, and is of course oblivious to what's going on. Scatahara tries to seduce him for what he knows, but no luck. See, Space Bong knows the formula for the universal transporter, but George doesn't, so it looks like it's gonna be a long night; Meanwhile at home, everybody sits around waiting for George, Mr. Spacely complains some more... you have to wonder why Jane invited these people over in the first place. I guess The Jetsons' universe doesn't include any other people who could possibly be their friends? Anyway, so George is sent to a deep, dark dungeon because he is not Space Bong. But then who should come to George's rescue but Space Bong himself, who looks, and dresses for some reason, exactly like George...until some patrol bots come by, Space Bong becomes a selfish asshole and leaves George for dead. He comes back later, however, just as George is left at the mercy of a killer robot called Mind Bender. Space Bong presents George with a deus ex machina that helps them escape. Scatahara vows vengeance, which she'll obviously never get, because she gets pulled over for speeding and is sentenced to life in prison for terrorism, racketeering, kidnapping, and for being a complete bitch without a license; And so, George comes home with the food, and let me ask, what is up with Mr. Spacely in this scene? He throws a tantrum like he hasn't eaten in a week and Mrs. Spacely simply tells him to relax. The Mrs. Spacely I know would haul his butt outside and kick some sense into him. But it all works out, because the little keepsake given to George by Space Bong proves very handy in ridding the family of a certain little pest.
This one was okay, I guess. It was a fun episode, albeit with a weak story and plot, and it felt very stretched out. Not a whole lot of effort was put into it. Just because Space Bong looks like George, does that mean they have to dress the same? Couldn't they give him a tux or something? Now they did a similar episode with The Flintstones, as mentioned above, and they put more effort into that one, and it was in 1966. This is 1985. James Bond was still cool, couldn't they have tried a fresher approach? Oh well, if you love the show, I say give this one a try, but don't expect much out of the ordinary. Then again, it could have been worse. Could have turned out that SNEAK is run by Cogswell, trying to screw with Spacely again.
