A down and out detective (an excellent performance by Paul Papadakis) on a seemingly routine stakeout wakes up one fateful morning to discover that his whole life has changed. While director Joshua Levey shows a good deal of style and ability, the story is alas way too abstract and obscure for its own good. For example, we never learn about the nature of the case the detective is working on. We also never find out who a certain mysterious woman (the alluring Suzan Britton) is or why the detective is a junkie. The resultant frustrating ambiguity makes this short feel more like a disjointed fragment than a complete and cohesive piece of work. A more clear script and longer running time (it's much too abrupt at a mere three minutes) would have helped out a great deal. So, despite sound acting, some fancy rapid-fire editing, Blake Neely's rattling score, and Alexander Yellen's shadowy noirish cinematography, the film overall doesn't amount to much more than a head-scratching curiosity item.
