Genesis: Part 2 - September 13, 1956

In the second part of this story. Al reckons he can get Sam safely back home.

Tom Stratton just needs to survive his record breaking test flight and he will leap.

Luckily for Sam. Al was an astronaut so he can give tips.

When Sam has bailed out from the plane. He is still in 1956.

What Sam was really here for was to make sure that his pregnant wife successfully gives birth. Luckily Sam Beckett has medical knowledge to assist in this.

When he does leap, it is into a body of a minor league baseball player.

Part 2 allows Al to give Sam more information about his life. Sam Beckett was touted as the new Einstein with six doctorates. He was a medical doctor but quantum physics is what he excelled at.

There is a nice emotional moment when Sam talks on the phone to his dad. It made Sam acknowledge that there might be some positives to the leaping.

It did seem that the story of the test pilot ran out of steam early on. Sam leaps into a baseball player but it was a minor story. Almost an afterthought to pad out the length.

Straight from the heart

Warning: Spoilers
The second part of the opening two-parter of QUANTUM LEAP, this contains a single scene which elevates it above usual TV fare: Sam using his medical knowledge to prevent his wife from going into premature labour. It's a great, satisfying moment and foretells what was to come. The second story of the baseball player is a little bit random as it's brief without any characterisation, although that emotional telephone call is straight from the heart.
