Easy "Monday" Night Viewing...
wozzasfc15 September 2009
Though not the most original of concepts, I really enjoyed Monday Monday. If you are looking for challenging drama, or laugh out loud comedy, you will probably be disappointed. If you are looking for easy-watching comedy drama with likable characters and some funny story lines, then Monday Monday is for you.

Unfortunately, the low viewing figures of under three million for an ITV1 show - that spent two years on the shelf before being aired - indicates it will be highly unlikely to get a second series.

Fay Ripley, Morven Christie and Holly Aird can all be pleased with their performances. I have seen Holly in a fair few ITV drama's over recent years such as Torn, and I rate her very highly as an actress. It's these qualities from someone like her that helped to hold Monday Monday together.

Monday Monday charming and fun to watch!
NebraskaGirl689 November 2014
I really really liked Monday Monday. I was surprised it was not some cheesy, poor scripted, poor acting show given the rather strange title that I'm not at all sure what it means, if it does have a meaning in reference to the show. I guess in a way Monday Monday reminded me a bit of the movie Bridget Jones Diary combined with The Office, kind of the same British humor. I am from the States and really enjoy watching British, French, and other foreign TV series and movies.

I really felt this show had a very good, well-rounded cast of characters and I especially loved the "2 Karen's" - they did very well acting their parts and were pretty funny, IMO!! And of course Tom Ellis has become a favorite of mine since Rush started airing on USA Network here in America - had no clue he was British! It always amazes me how British, or other foreign actors, do away with their accent when acting in an American show. Like Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohen of The Walking Dead show, how they talk 'southern' on that show and you cannot hear a lick of the British accent. I always listen real good to see if I can hear it now and again, but I seldom do. Anyway, whatever. Oh, and Fay Ripley is probably, in my opinion, the funniest of all the cast playing the head of HR and a drunk and someone who lacks smarts! I really liked her character a lot and thought she did a great job playing the part!!

As far as Monday Monday goes, do yourself a favor and give it a watch. I actually found season 1, the only season so far,on the Viewster channel on my Roku box. But I just googled it and all 7 episodes of season 1 are on youtube.com as well. Enjoy!!

Why was there only one series? Great collection of characters with a funny, sharp script.

I went in hesitantly because of the critical reviews, but I was pleasently surprised and quite impressed by Monday Monday!

The first episode was certainly a bit chaotic and silly, for lack of a better word, and I found some of the characters a bit unlikable, but it got better and better!

This miniseries has light humour and some slapstick elements, but that doesn't mean you won't chuckle or even laugh out loud a few times. The whole thing is very British with its dry humour and nuanced delivery.

I loved the characters of Sally and Christine, they felt the most fleshed out to me from the beginning. Tom Ellis as Steven was great too and even though the whole love triangle situation between him him, Alyson and Sally seemed bothersome and clichéd in the beginning, it turmed out far more interesting and reasonable than I expected.

Actually the "romantic" component of the drama was one of the things I thoroughly enjoyed - it wasn't super heavy, progressed naturally with humorous elements and didn't take away from the other characters, all of which felt quite human by the end.

On that note, one thing I would have liked to see in episode three was Natasha playing tennis against her brother in the charity event. Would have been fun in my opinion and an opportunity for reconciliation between the two of them.

While of course I'd love to know how things are going to continue with Alyson's pregnancy, I know there won't realistically be a continuation. Having said that, I am pretty happy with the ending and think it works as a conclusion. I'm not sure if another season or two would be able to hold the quality of the first one, especially with a relatively small main cast like this one.

Tldr; I liked this series quite a bit and think it's great for a few fun hours of light entertainment.

wow the 80s called

They want their lazy tired jokes back.. no seriously there could be some good points to this, I have only seen 4 episodes but so far it is pretty lazy and dated:
  • the fat jokes, I mean who would want to even HAVE LUNCH with the fat guy?
  • short woman and the tall woman, well they must be freaks right? (It's funny to see the crap roles that Miranda Hart and are given? See them in Call the Midwife to see how well they do with fantastic roles in a fantastically written series. )
  • oh my god the large woman in the bakery as the horror of a spinsterhood awaiting for the main character!
  • a couple of cougars messing things up for our princess. How desperate. Don't they know they should get out of the way both romantically and professionally?

Drunken twenty somethings desperate for someone to love them isn't actually that interesting. Was this written by similar people with no self awareness as to how boring that is? I mean we could have some empathy for their plight (rather than see them as heroic) and that would make this show interesting...but we shall see....

I rarely write reviews. This, however, was such a disappointing experience that I long to vent.

Holly, Fay, and Jenny were excellent actresses. I really enjoyed them.

The Karens! Omg, works of genius.

As a viewer, I got engaged in their characters, especially as they emotionally grew and responded to situations.

Ugh!! The main love interest, Steven, was a scrub who didn't even pay his own rent (or, at least, until later in season) while having an emotional affair ;and almost physical) with a 20-something.

To be honest, Alyson was beyond too good for him. She was referred to in the final episode as a woman of great integrity. He, by comparison, never demonstrated any growing of his character. She developed from a ball-buster cut-throat to having a bigger world view.

So I genuinely liked her and felt like she was treated shabbily.

If the producers wanted us to cheer Sally/Steven, they made a mistake in giving Alyson so much personal development.

That Steven was the great prize of both women (both who pay their own bills) is laughable.

Sally to be the other main prize is also a disappointment. Not that she is a lovely young lady, but her character is absolutely not particularly interesting.

To have Michael and Steven falling all over themselves for her is fatiguing.

Her best friend, Tash, even more of an interesting tagline and personality.

Even Max and Vince have character development and arc in their view points.

This collection of great talent and charming storyline setup was greatly mishandled.
