The Craft of Dirty Harry (2008)

*** (out of 4)

Of all the featurettes on the special edition releases of the DIRTY HARRY films, this one here is probably the least entertaining but it's still worth watching for fans of the series. Clint Eastwood comments on his opinion of the auteur theory and why he doesn't fully buy into it. From here we get interviews with the likes of Lalo Schifrin, James Fargo, Michael Madsen, Jay Cocks, David Ayer and several others as they talk about the importance of the editor, cinematographer as well as the composer. This featurette is basically paying homage to the people behind the camera who usually don't get any credit for their work. We take a look at all of their jobs and basically get to hear what they brought to the series. This here is a mildly entertaining featurette that at least pays respect to the likes of Schifrin but for the most part it's a bit all over the place. At 22 minutes the featurette covers mostly the first picture with the other four pretty much being overlooked.
