A satisfying ending.

Part 5 was totally entertaining, dramatic, and built up for a big finale. Ending the series with that standard was always going to be a tall order, and in some ways it achieves, and in a few it perhaps doesn't.

It is always satisfying when you know all, when a multi layered story loaded with twists and turns is revealed. I've seen too many Francis Durbridge productions to have been fooled by the identity of the killer(s) as his work does tend to follow a formula, with tell tale signs.

It is gripping, and I would imagine on first watch the identity of the bad guys is a shock, certainly the reasoning behind the tragic accident involving his parents came as a big surprise.

All in all Breakaway is very good, Durbridge's plots are so clever, and deserve to be re-made for today's audiences. Martin Jarvis is very impressive in the lead role. It lacks some of the magic that the earlier productions like Melissa and Game of Murder, but it's still really worthy of a watch.
