a typo in the opening blurb on screen is the least of its problems
timetraveller-4315314 June 2021
Netflixian cast who can't act, a Cannibal Troll that isn't, and spelling fairy tale as "fairytail".

There are many ways to enjoy this film: cautionary tale about casting, trying to make sense of its incoherent gibberish, continually wondering where the money came to make it- tax writeoff? Some kind of arts grant for diversity?

This is cack. Scrape it off your shoe and do not watch it.

not new here

Beautiful people getting hacked via bad FX, yes its another horror monster movie with bad acting, and its nothing original.

The FX are bad, the monster looks bad and pretty much the rest of the movie.

This was just plain bad...
paul_haakonsen24 July 2021
Sure, when I sat down to watch the 2021 horror movie titled "Cannibal Troll" and from what I saw on the movie's cover, I must admit that I wasn't really expecting much of anything grand here.

But still, as it was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I sat down to watch it. But it quickly became apparent that I was in for a stinker here. A real stinker at that.

The storyline is pretty straight forward, as you would expect from a horror movie that very much is reminiscent of something you'd see in an early 1980s horror movie. And not the good early 1980s horror movies, mind you.

Then there was the troll. Wow. Just wow. Seriously? You dress a guy up in what could best be regarded as a poor man's "Lord of the Rings" orc costume, and even with clothing appropriate to that fantasy movie, and you call it a cannibal troll? Well, my hat is off to writer Scott Jeffrey for attempting this. I mean, seriously, this was so obviously a latex mask, given there was no articulation in it whatsoever, not even when the troll was making grunting sounds.

If you enjoy horror movies and want to be entertained and watch a proper horror movie that offers scares, blood and perhaps some gore, and say, oh I don't know, entertainment, then do yourself a favor and stay well clear of "Cannibal Troll" from directors Scott Jeffrey and Rebecca Matthews.

The acting in "Cannibal Troll", well, it was as to be expected from a movie of this magnitude. So don't get your hopes up.

"Cannibal Troll" feels like a high school film class project, and it isn't work the time or effort.

My rating of this movie lands on a generous two out of ten stars.

Dafuq?

I can't post the review until I type up at least 150 characters, so I will do the work that should've been done when naming the movie...

Can·ni·bal noun
  • an animal that feeds on flesh of its own species.

I deduct one star retroactively, since you can't give 0 stars.

Whoa, save yourself
staunton-gary27 June 2021
Seriously, save yourself from this, whatever it is. Bad script, bad acting, bad movie , way too long - 2 stars as I managed to stay with it until the end, only fast forwarded a few times. It's 2021 and they still think its ok to push out this crap. If there was nudity in this, I'd have given it an extra star. Not going on my recommendation list.

nice linguistical diction...
ops-5253515 June 2021
But a hopelessly unimpressive made horror movie of used up tricks and ideas that levaes you on the trail of damnation without guessing., sooo lets all see it come enbodied by 6 english lasses on a fieldtrip rural british countryside, the cannibal monster unveils itself already from the intro so no secret card held to the chest.

Technically its pure average, though with mike shadows here and there and some blown away sound recordings. The acting aint strong, and the dry lips syndrome is highly vindictive and unfolds an actors incomprehensiveness and skill trough all that liplicking and wrinckled foreheads.

So its a try and a bye from the grumpy old man. Not a recommend.

Not a Cannibal but it is a Troll
Hayden-860555 October 2023
Cannibal Troll is not the best of horror films, that's definitely certain. The acting is average, but admittedly better than the usual Scott Chambers's ultra low budget horror flick. The troll isn't actually a cannibal as it neither eats human flesh or troll flesh.

The plot was terrible and involves several friends going on a sort of hen-do type trip before the main character gets married (cue unusual and out of place lesbian side plot!) her husband to be is apparently not thought of too well by the girls who outright call him boring within the first ten minutes to the weak defense of the main character. The actual troll's mask is quite silly, but again, I've seen worse. There are a couple of somewhat effective tense moments, but they're quickly destroyed when we actually come face to face with the troll in the second half. There's a ridiculous sub plot involving a Priest and, what I think, was a holy handgun.

3/10: Cinematography and acting are average, but it's brought down in every other department. At least it wasn't as boring as some other ultra low budget films.

Very bad but there are worse
dasa10815 July 2021
This film has some characteristics that I like: the budget is very low, some actresses are quite good which indicates that the casting was not so bad and it shows a decent production design for the few dollars they had. Leaving this aside, there are a thousand things that did not go well: the idea of avoiding gore content, the total absence of intelligence of the film's characters, the lack of nudity and the fact that the villain had no previous history. I accept the good intentions of the producers but the end result is terrible with some positive caveats.

Horrifyingly Trolly
ScaryMinion12 June 2022
A cult classic, cinematic masterpiece that has even the MCU trembling in its wake. Cannibal Troll is the perfect example of a movie not needing a big budget to be horrifying.

My eyes shot of my head and my tongue went 14 feet to smash my tv because I was scared!!! I ran and had to grab my sweet babe to try and convince myself that if the Cannibal Troll came I could protect her...

I can lie to myself all I want, the cannibal Troll is too dangerous and scary for cinema, it would be 10 starts but I'm taking two off because it shouldn't be on film, I cried really hard at some parts...

The self discovery is an amazing concept of it and it supports LGBTQIA+ audiences.

A TROLLY movie that shocks you down to you proper britches!

Dismal in Every Way
arfdawg-124 March 2023
Wow I want my hour and 17 minutes back. This movie is horrible. The wet faced troll lives in a nice house with paintings on the walls and bullies some black girl for half the movie. When he's not bullying her, she's running away. Multiple times, but somehow he finds her. He doesnt speak.

Meanwhile there are a group of girls in the nearby woods who, despite walking under a thick canopy of shade trees, spend 10 minutes putting sunscreen on!

The acting is completely and totally non existent. This is worse than a middle school production.

And it's all really surprising because Brit horror flicks these days always seem to be quirky and a bit funny with some decent characters.

This movie has none of those.

Scream Fest
dmsl-221934 October 2021
No, not a scream fest by the audience but by the astonishingly horrible women 'acting' in this movie where SCREAMING takes up at least half of this flick. I'll wager that after this wrapped everyone in this film except the troll spent a lot of money with an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor to nurse their vocal cords back to health. Idiotic plot and completely predictable. By halfway through I was fast forwarding to get to the 'good parts' but there were none. Skip it.

They Never Listen
nogodnomasters4 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The film opens with us getting to see the orcish troll right away. Several girls and their mom go hiking/camping near the area. They are warned by a priest at an abandoned church on the south boundary not to travel north or they might get lost and find something. He never uses the words "cannibal troll" in his warnings. And it is the troll that lives in the cabin in the woods. Not being able to read the map between them. . .

Not the best troll horror film out there. I like the Scandinavian one better. When they weren't being hunted by the troll, they were taking about their lesbian relationships.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

No reason to be scared
jaahasperkele20 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the actresses in general, but somewhat over acting made me want to stop watching. I wanted to be scared but I wasn't. I liked the end thou, the two main characters ended up together. That's the reason for four stars instead of two.

A Chore
silvio-mitsubishi14 April 2022
Sadly let down by poor script and very low budget. The troll seems to live outside human society but in a shed made from machined timber and fitted with windows and mortise locks. The internal walls are even dry lined.

Actors deliver their lines as if reading them for the first time, with no idea of context. Much is made in the opening scenes of compass directions - "Don't go north", "We will head south", yet nobody has a compass and their map reading skills are such that they do not initially notice that they are standing beside a 12th century church that is not on the map.

Not that it matters anyway, since they never venture more than a few metres from their campsite, and are never away from waymarked paths, cultivated fields, tended grass.

A sub-plot involves a cleric who dresses in full ecclesiastical garb to tend an unused church, while other sub-plots involve a husband-to-be who sounds like a caricature, a gay relationship, a pregnant woman who cannot find a man, the bride's mother turning up for the hen party without the bride's knowledge, captives who escape repeatedly from the troll but never go to the town that is visible from the viewpoint where much of the action takes place.

The actor playing the mother appears in another film by the same director. The impression is one of a group of friends working together, making for a happy atmosphere and an enjoyable experience for participants, but scenes are padded out with meaningful pauses, silences, stares and huge overacting.

The potential is there but the product is tiring to watch.

LGBTQ+ Representation, and It Was Entertaining
icocleric20 June 2022
I don't think this film is as bad as the ratings, and reviews suggests. It's not the best, but I have certainly seen much worse, and much more amateur attempts. It's not bringing anything new, but it's entertaining.

The picture quality is actually really good, and there's some lovely locations too. There was something going on with the sound though, it didn't quite match up with the mouths, and I think that effecting how the acting looked.

Although the priest had some major overacting going on, but that was just a little funny. The title is a little misleading, the troll eats humans, not other trolls.

I love that there was LGBTQ+ representation. That was a really nice touch to the story.

The pinnacle of modern day horror
Darth_Dequan12 June 2022
Cannibal troll, words cannot describe the terror you feel when watching this film. The constant dread that the evil and scary and evil cannibal troll is near. I actually cried when the cannibal troll first appeared. My wife's boyfriend covered his eyes in scare. This movie should not be 18+ it should be rated 80+ because you need dementia so it's not scary. Cannibal troll alone was enough to make me go into primal fight or flight and use my 16 inch Disney black series collectible Thor hammer to destroy my custom made 75 inch flat screen tv in my mega mansion tv watching room. I had to poop really bad, and the cannibal troll helped me release the fiery Mexican diarrhea fiesta in my bowels. 9/10, am only taking one off because I cried and puked and screamed at the terror and my grandpa oxygen tank blowed up out of fear.

Misleading
stuthorr10 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I wanted to see a troll devouring other trolls.

A title like 'Cannibal Troll' would suggest that.... It isn't that.

Very disappointing. I do not recommend.
