As a Mexican-American myself, I feel that this film is a misrepresentation of Southern Americans living within the United States. In addition to that, I feel that this movie was kind of racist towards white people for no specific reason. The film is about food and how it's A part of you and your culture. I just find it very weird that the only black character within the film is the only one that's relatable to the 12-year-old girl. While all the other white characters ignore ignore the food that is presented towards them. I feel that this film doesn't understand that food brings people together no matter what race you are, that it should be connecting people to one another, which a kind of does but in a way where It's just pushing a cherry picked message. Also found the mother character obnoxious in the film.

This movie was an amazing coming of age film of a young girl (brilliant actress) that has to deal with some insecurities of being different. Great writing, amazing cast and the laugh at the end was so heart warming. Made me proud to see a Great representation of the transition from island to Mainland. It did a phenomenal job of representing Puerto Rican culture and that food!!!! Yum.
