Don't Listen To The Reviews
lil_fool_miro14 April 2009
PLEASE do not believe the reviews going around, I was shocked by the reviews. Repetitive - yes, Unpolished - Yes, Slightly Off Beat From Movie - Yes .. but i love it.

If you like the first one, get this. It's plain and simple godfather fun, its repetitive but its fun. Graphics could be better, but the game was so enjoyable that i couldn't care less. Its December 31, 1958 in Havana, Cuba, 4 years after the character of the preceding game, Aldo Trapani, is made Don of New York City. The game proceeds to introduce its main protagonist, the player's character, who is named Dominic. The player is then allowed to customize Dominic's physical appearance according to his/her preferences. Following this, the game reveals the first major scenario which occurs. Michael Corleone, successor to the Corleone empire, is in Havana for a business meeting with Hyman Roth and two other Dons, Rico Granados and Samuele Mangano. From there the Cuban revolution sparks when your talking to Aldo inside the Havana hotel. I wont tell you anymore.. but the game really begins shortly after the Havana bit, when you get promoted to Michael Corleones right hand man, and have strategic control over New York City.

Graphics - 7.5/10

Gameplay - 9.5/10 (lovely hand to hand and weapon combat.. controls could be only slightly better, and no jumping :( )

Story - 8/10 (they done the best they could without breaking any laws)

Lasting Time 7.5/10 (Average single-player time.. don't get too hooked or else you'll regret finishing it so quick)

Multiplayer - 7.5/10 (Servers are packed.. I'm currently loving it,even though the multiplayer isn't that great)

Brilliant Game.

It's Only Business
RainDogJr31 May 2009
I haven't been playing video games this year, the last one I got was Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 back in last year's November and just three weeks ago I got a new one, this one, the second Godfather video game (I got it for PS3). I have the first one for PS2 and back in 2006 I enjoyed it a lot, thought it was a good game so this one was an offer I couldn't refuse. I think I liked more the first one but still this is a good game, this is fun, this would have been if a new installment in the Grand Theft Auto series would have been soon to be released a great entrée, the perfect thing before the main and delicious dish.

The graphics are great, the story is basic, you know at one point the only left thing to do is to take over every business and end with every rival family. Is quite an easy game, unless you're in Cuba and the military is after you is very unlikely that you get killed. Like in the first one here to end with a rival family you will have to go to their compound and blow it, I'm mentioning this just to give an example of how the game is quite easy, I mean in the compound of each family there are many enemies and all are ready to f*** you and your allies up but if you don't show any weapon the enemies don't show any weapon. While I killed each enemy in the first two compounds I decided to blow my with my shotgun, sniper rifle, etc. my cousin (who "helped" me to blow the third compound) just hit like a crazy motherf***** the enemies and it was much more easy for him to get to where the bomb must be placed! But anyway, I enjoyed very much this game yet it is the kind of game once you finish its story you are not going to play more (maybe online. I haven't played it online but I have the feeling I'm not missing something awesome).

Flawed but fun, an offer you shouldn't refuse.

Warning: Spoilers
When the Don of New York is killed following Castro's rebellion in Cuba, Don Michael Corleone places responsibility for his business interests squarely in your hands...

Taking numerous liberties with the source material, The Godfather II is an interesting game. The main appeal is the building of your own empire and 'Family', whilst eliminating your rivals in the traditional Sicilian fashion. However, the main story of the game is somewhat flawed, complete a mission, take over some businesses, etcetera. Sometimes a free-hand is not always what is best.

However, while it lasts, the game is particularly addictive, interacting with characters from the famous film as you counter assassination attempts, FBI hearings and even attempt to eliminate the dictatorship of Cuba. The fighting system is just a complex as the previous game, with plenty of imaginative execution methods to keep you occupied.

The voice cast is generally on good form, although several key players from the film such as G.D. Spradlin (Senator Geary), Carmine Caridi and Danny Aiello (The Rosato Brothers), not to mention Al Pacino himself, are notably absent. However, Robert Duvall performs excellently as the unflappable consigliere Tom Hagen.

Perhaps a game for rental rather than purchase, this is a game which should not be missed.

HIDDEN GEM!
Analog_Devotee3 August 2021
This game was massively ahead of its time. I bought this off the rack in 2009 shortly after its release, looking for a new open-world crime experience. This BLEW me away. The assembling of your own unique crew (both in skills and looks) was an insane level of detail to me.

I remember the first time I sent my crew to take over a business so I could take care of something else. I drove by the place they were taking over, and I could SEE them inside taking over the joint! Holy cow! I thought to myself, this is the future of gaming. I could go about my originally planned business, or park my car and get into the fray with the crew I sent over -- talk about freedom of choice!

Amazingly Dominant Like Dominic
kervindonngo6 November 2022
Unlike the previous game. The second Godfather game called Godfather 2 takes place during the events of the second movie of the same name. The game now focuses on Dominic Corleone just like Aldo Trapani the first default protagonist of the Godfather games and the man who became Don of New York. Dominic can be customizable and it even has more outfits and accessories in the game. The combat is not really similar to the previous game but it has more combo moves in-game even it did have a move list and it even has more satisfying black hand brutalities which are also known as executions or Blackhand Executions and more absolutely new animations. The detail in the game is almost amazing which shows more realisticness even though there are not enough fun things to do. The combat was both realistic and absolutely fun. What is even more fun is that you can try to kill an army with just bare hands. Of course, when used carefully. It has side missions and hitman mode to grind up the fun and preparation. The story is almost just like the movie like I said before a director's cut extends more of the scenes from the movie. And the best part of this game is that I get to hire recruits as my allies and followers to fight against enemies which also features protection rackets to help fight against invaders.

I really love this game that I really wanted to play a long time ago. And I wish there is another game for Godfather 3.

Not much content

It's crazy that the first game is literally one of the best games ever made, only thing they had to do was copy the first game and just make it Florida Cuba and NYC and they screwed it up. You start off the game as a boss which is corny and the maps are like tiny compared to the first game. Driving sucks, the crew thing they did is way over thought and unnecessary, I just don't understand what happened when they were making it. Play the first game, leave this one alone. First game still holds up, I just played it again and is 2022!
