Coping in the Midst of a Zombie Apocalypse
Uriah4318 March 2019
This film begins several months after a zombie apocalypse with two men named "Ed" (North Roberts) and "Matt" (Matthew E. Prochazka) driving a car on an isolated road somewhere in the Great Plains on an extremely cold winter day. As it so happens, while driving they see a man who goes by the name of "Joe" (Christian Rogala) running toward them and upon picking him up learn that he has been chased by zombies. Yet rather than having any sympathy for his situation they kill him and then butcher his body before taking it to a house to trade for cans of food. The film then segues in to various other interconnected scenes involving--not just Ed and Matt--but also other people and how they cope with the zombie apocalypse in this specific part of the country. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this was one of 8 zombies movies contained on a 2-dvd set titled "Extreme Zombies Movie Collection" which I purchased some time ago but just got around to viewing. And as far as low-budget zombie films are concerned this particular one wasn't too bad all things considered. Although I didn't especially care for some of the characters or the ending necessarily, the acting wasn't too bad and the film managed to keep my attention for the most part as well. That being said, while certainly not a great zombie movie by any means, it was good enough for the time spent and I have rated it accordingly. Average.

Not well done

The dead feast on human flesh and stop at nothing for it.

The living, confined to the dark corners of the world, must do what it takes to survive.

Dying is the only thing left to do at the end of the world.

Now Ed, Matt, Joe, Natalie, Sam and Mary will try to survive.

Who lives depends on who kills first.

It's a disjointed movie that I just really didn't like much.

I found it hard to follow and frankly, not especially interesting.

The acting was atrocious and the directing non-existent. I cannot recommend this movie in the slightest.

Pulp Fiction meets Zombieland
HorrorSociety24 April 2010
I have to admit; Bled White caught my eye with its DVD cover a zombie screaming directly at me, and blood spelling out the title. Well, when I put the movie and began to watch it, I thought it was an average movie, until it hit me and I realized that this was one hell of a zombie flick. The film tells a few stories rather than just one linear story: 1) the story of two hit men who kill humans to feed to a zombie 2) the story of a wife and husband who hire two men to kill humans to feed to their dead zombie son 3) the story of a young couple who try to make it through the end of the world. They are both very stimulating stories and each one really made me feel for the characters.

Right off the bat I noticed something about this film and that something is what really made me love this movie. Each story is like a serial and I can see (I don't know if this is true) that this film pays a lot of tribute to Pulp Fiction in the sense that each story cuts off and picks up with another one. Each story is intertwined and it's non linear, there is even this sense of pulpness and grittiness to the film that mirrors Quentin Tarantino flicks. There is great violence; there is stylization and great character development. That brings me to my next point… Bled White really makes me care for its characters. Character development is very key when it comes to zombie flicks because it helps show the emotion and the struggle when surviving a zombie apocalypse. The hit men are characters that you love but hate at the same time because they are cruel and brutal, and one of them is looking for his wife and you can tell that he really has a heart but won't show it. It's a brilliant character arc. The father from the second story is very quiet but contemplative, he understands what his son is and he knows that him and his wife will eventually die but there is still some delusion left in him. It's sad and I really felt for him out of all the rest. The director did a great job capturing the emotion that drives his characters.

The other thing that it does, quite nicely too, is show us just how bleak the future after the zombie apocalypse is. The film is beautifully shot and it uses a wide array of filters and color correction to give us this threatening and cold world that the characters are in. There are scenes where it looks like the whole thing is in black and white but its not, it's just washed out to show us how dead and cold things are. When its morning the sky is red and orange that maybe hints on the fact that there may have been an explosion or some kind of chemical that caused the atomic sky. The whole film is just wonderfully colorized.

If you are a zombie fan I would not pass this movie up. The movie is like Pulp Fiction meets Zombieland meets Dawn of the Dead meets Benny Hill. It's a fun time and I guarantee that it's worth checking into. This is probably one of the few movies that I have see that has running zombies in it and doesn't make me look away in disgust. So, if you have a chance to see it, give it a try… it's one hell of a movie.

Better Than Expected

I found this on the Popcorn channel on Roku and gave it a shot. You can see right away that it's an extremely low-budget zombie flick - and those are a dime a dozen and usually stink big time. But I found this one surprisingly different. You can tell that Jose Carlos Gomez, the Director, was going for much more than a cheapie, run-of-the-mill zombie movie. The low budget definitely works against the film in some ways, but, for the most part, I think it adds to the bleakness of the story. The acting was actually quite good with North Roberts and Colleen Boag standing out.

I didn't love the movie. There were a few plot holes and editing issues and other technical problems that you would expect from such a low-budget movie. But I say give it a chance - I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.

Unexpected substance and plot in a movie I expected to be way way worse. Low budget zombie flicks are not known for being this good.

I don't really write movie reviews so I cannot give you a real critical review. But I do want to say that I really enjoyed this movie. There is an actual plot. And the plot is good.

I was totally immersed the entire time. I really liked the interesting effects they used. Yes it is low budget but that added to the realistic feel. Nothing cheesy special effect wise. They were able to do a ton with smart locations.

And because they did not rely on cgi crap they actually put thought into things. And it shows. The dialogue is fantastic and is not "over written".

Oh and the actors/actresses were attractive in a real way. No blond bimbos. Just I dunno the type of attractive you would notice and say to yourself "wow he/she is cute".

There were not any glaring flaws. More like a subtle "hmmm some of the rough edges will no doubt be smoothed with a little more experience".

An excellent movie overall.
