This is an episode of a half hour anthology series "Telephone Time"--which was sponsored by Bell--the Telephone people.
This is an odd little morality tale about conformity and the value of individual rights. In another time in America, there was a strange town of zealots who ALWAYS had their men clean-shaven. Oddly, however, when one guy grows a beard during a prolonged hunting trip, the town begins behaving oddly--like he was some sort of traitor! Now, on principle, he refuses to shave! His family is mistreated and eventually he's even sent to prison by these weird and supposedly religious people.
Overall, it's a very interesting story but the ending is a bit muddled--you really aren't sure what they are trying to say! But it is pleasant, nonetheless.
