Not bad, but the territory is a bit familiar

What's with all the zombie films?! They seem to be practically a dime a dozen and this is about the fifth zombie short film I've seen in recent weeks and there have been a plethora of full-length zombie films. Heck, on IMDb today they had a report that George Romero would be making yet another zombie film!! Isn't enough, enough?! Unless a zombie film has something dramatically different to say (such as in FIDO or SHAUN OF THE DEAD), I really wish the genre would take a head wound and be put out of its misery.

In light of this, it isn't all that surprising that I was not in love with this zombie film. Sure, it has some originality--but it also has zombies and more of the same as well. Additionally, some of the acting (particularly the very wooden cops) wasn't great and the sound track was a bit too invasive. However, I should add that if you love zombie films, you might just think a bit better of the film--but just a bit.

Warning: Spoilers
A lot has been done in the genre of cheap indie short films involving cute girls and zombies. So here's more! and I can't say I can complain except for a few minor points. One, the acting makes this movie seem like what would happen if Lifetime produced an exploitation horror movie. Two, whereas almost all of the technical qualities of the film (editing, imagery, mise-en-scene, etc.) are really good, it really could have held back on music. The director seems to have gotten blocking and set-direction down pat, but directing actors and really building up scenes based on the dialog and movement is something to focus on for future installations and potential bigger career.

Otherwise, I don't much regret spending a quick ten minutes viewing it. I'd like to thank IMDb for putting up these independent shorts, as it's a nice feature to include and I'm always down to seeing what other people are doing out there. Congrats to those who have pulled their projects together and have something to show.
